WINDOW-SHADE FIXTURE.
Application filed July 8, 1915. Serial No. 38,723.
To all whom it mag concern.
Be it known that we, ULRICH SrRINoHoRN and OSCAR KALLANDER, subjects of the King of Sweden, residing at Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade Fixtures,
7 of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in windowshade fixtures designed primarily with the object of providing a guide for controlling the rollingaction of a windowshade and a stop for limiting its movement. p
A further object inview is to provide a device of this character which will permit of a wide range of adjustability 'and embodying means for holding its adjustable sections in adjusted positions.
With the above and other objects in view,
'thisinvention consists of certain combinations, constructions and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Throughout the following detail description and on the several figures of the'drawing, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters. J Referring to the drawing, the numeral '1 designates a window frame of conventional form and construction to the top. portion of which, and at each side are attached supporting clips 2 upon which is supported the device forming the subject-matter ofthis invention. The same comprises abody memher or rod consisting preferably of adjustable sections 3, 4, each of which is substantially the same in configuration and forma tion'. It will be noted by reference to Fig. 2 particularly that the adjustable sections 3, 4 overlap one another and the inner end of each is bifurcated as shown most clearly in the curtain or shade will roll evenly upon its i Fig. 5 at 5, the bifurcate portion being bent v laterally and clamped around the contiguous .adjustablesection so as to constitute a sliding connection between said sections.

This shade, as'is customary,is provided with the stick or rod stiffening member 11 atits lower or free end, and in the use of. the article forming the subject-matter hereinbefore described, the rolling action of'the curtain is controlled by the, guide loops cooperating with each side of the curtain so that supporting roller.- In addition the guide loops are adapted to coact with the stiffening member 11 when'the shade" is raised to limit the rolling movement and prevent like-.

It will be obvious that the rods'ections 3 L and 4 may be suitably adjusted :to accord with different'width-s of window frame as well as window-shades that may be, supported therebyand accordingly the" clips 2 with which the rod sections frictionally engage are designed to be attached at proper spaced position upon the frame as by means of screws 2 In order to hold the rod sections at; adjusted positions, locking means are provided, consisting of clipsslidably 1:: 1 mounted upon the overlapping portlonsof 110 Y around and unwinding the spring, a I very said sections, .any desired number of said clips being employed to properly carry out the function of this device. lhe important feature of these clips is that upon sliding one of the same laterally toward the end of one section adjacent to the point Where it is bent about its cooperating section, said clip forms a wedge by reason of the fact, primarily, that the space between the sections at this point is reduced and the further reason that the yieldability of the material is likewise less at this portion. Advantage is taken of this to obtain frictional clamping action or connection of the sections which will prevent the sections from being extended .or contracted when one or more of the clip members is in position adjacent to the connecting ends of the respective sections.
It will be noted from the drawing that the clips, denoted 12 are formed by bending a piece of metal in one direction about one of the sections and in the other direction about the other section, therefore being substantially in the shape of the figure 8, in cross section, the material of said clip obviously passing between the respective sections. It is this intermediate part of the clip which forms the wedge and by compari son of Figs. 4 and 5 the difference in the space between the rod sections will be more apparent. As shown in the preferred construction of the device, three of these clips are employed one at each side and one intermediate and the intermediate clip is designed to perform its own special function of preventing the separation of the sections when the lateral clips are shoved into wedging position. It is this intermediate clip, therefore, that makes the lateral clips effective in action and hence said intermediate clip is a desirable cooperative element.
In Fig. 7 is shown a slightly modified form of the device and in this construction the sections 3 and A conform exactly in construction being connected in exactly the same manner as with respect to the preferred form to obtain relative movement or slipping connection of these parts. Adjacent to the end of each section, however, the material'is bent laterally and inwardly to form a recurved guiding element 7 spaced slightly from the major portion of its section, this bending forming a guide loop for performing exactly the same function as the loop of the preferred construction formed by the elements 7 8. The end 9 of each section in this modified form is bent at right angles from the recurved portion 7 and the extremities suitably apertured so as to engage with the ends of the windowshade or roller, more strictly speaking. With this type of fixture, the shade indicated in dotted lines 10 is supported by any conventional type of bracket 2", the fixture hereinbefore described being supported from the shade pivots and, therefore, pendent beneath the shade so as to properly'perform its function which is identical with that of the preferred construction in that the shade is guided and limited with respect to its rolling action.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is:
1. A windowshade fixture of the class described comprising adjustable sections overlapping and having their ends engaging each other, and a locking member freely slidable on the overlapping portion when said sections are in adjusted positions, said member extending between the overlapping portions of the sections whereby on movement of the locking member toward an en gaging end to cause binding action thereby locking the sections from relative movement.
2. A windowshade fixture of the class described comprising adjustable sections overlapping each other, and a locking member comprising a clip having its ends reversely bent about the overlapping portions of the sections and passing therebetween at its intermediate portion, the end of each section being slidably engaged with the other sec tion, whereby upon movement of the clip toward an engaging end to cause binding action tending to prevent relative sliding movement of said sections.
3. A windowshade fixture of the class de scribed comprising adjustable sections overlapping each other, the end of each section being slidably engaged with the other section, locking means for holding the sections at adjusted positions movably mounted on the overlapping portions, said means cornprising wedging clips, and means associated with the clips for rendering the wedging action of said clips effective.
4. A windowshade fixture of the class described comprising adjustable rod sections overlapping each other, and locking means on the overlapping portions consisting of a plurality of clip members slidably engaging the overlapping portions and passing therebetween, certain of said clip members constituting wedge elements and oneof said clip members intermediate those last-mentioned coacting to prevent yielding and separation of the overlapping portions during wedging action of the other clip members.
5. As a new article of manufacture, a windowshade fixture comprising a rod adapted to extend across a window, the material of the rod adjacent to each end being bent downwardly at right angles to its body portion, then inwardly from the right angle 'portion'and back upon the inwardly bent portion in superposed relation thereto to form a guide element adapted to coeperate at one side of the windowshade, the material then being bent outwardly and inwardly, then back upon itself in superposed relation and in parallel relation to the aforesaid rebent portion to form a guide element In testimony whereof We aifix our signaadapted to coiiperate With the WindoWshade tures.
