SAFE on VAULT noon.
Application filed December 24, 1915. Serial No. 68,481.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Mosns MOSLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, and CARL BARTELS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, Butler county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful lm provements in Safe or Vault Doors, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention, pertaining to improvements in safe or vault doors, relates particu larly to the means for joining a bolt-frame of machinable metal to a door of non-machinable metal, such as manganese steel. cast ings, and the invention will be readily understood from the following description taken in connection withjthe accompanying drawing in which j Figure 1 is a section of a door in the plane of lines a of Figs. 2 and 3, this figure illustrating an exempliflcation of our improved door: Fig. 2 a rear elevation of the'door, when in square form, parts appearlng 1n vert1cal section in the plane of line b of Fig. 1; and' Fig. 3 a rear elevation of the door, when-in round form, parts appearing in vertical section in the plane of line b of Fig.1.
In the drawings :l, illustrates a safe or vault door assumed as being of unmachinable metal, such as manganese steel casting,
, this door being, round as in Fig. 3, or rectangular, as in Fig. 2, and the marginof the door belng provided with the usual steps: 2, an integrally formed rearwardly b 6, the bolts adapted to slide in and out through suitable apertures in the members Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, rare.
3 and 5 of, the bolt-frame, and through flange 2.
In Fig. 2 the door is illustrated as being.
of rectangular form and in Fig. 3 it is illustrated as belng of clrcular form. Our invention is quite independent of the shape of the door, as regards its outline, and is quite independent of the number of bolts employed, and of the mechanism for operating the bolts, and 1s quite independent as to any peculiarity of means for securing the'boltframe to the door. The bolts pass through the members 3 and 5 of the bolt-frame and also through flange 2 of the door. The bolts are to fit the bolt-frame, as usual, and it is immaterial to our inventionwhether or not the bolts fit the apertures in flange 2 through which they pass. Portion l of the boltfra1ne, which unites members 3 and 5 of the bolt-frame, will. preferably be continued entirely across the inner portion of the door, as illustrated, so as to form a proper seating of machinable metal for the locks and otherappurtenanoes which are to be secured to the inner side of the door.

door proper, a flange projecting integrally and rearwardly therefrom, abolt-frame havng a forwardly presenting groove engaging sald flange, and bolts: slidablethrough the bolt-frame'and flange, combined sub- 80 2. and rearwardly therefrom, a bolt-frame having an outer member provided with a for-, wardly presentlng' groove -'engag1ng the flange on the door and provided with an inner member united with the outer member, and bolts slidable through the flange of the door and through the inner and outer members of the bolt-frame, combined sub stantially as set forth. f r
3. A safe or-vault door comprising, a
door proper, a flange projecting integrally and rearwardly therefrom, an outer boltframe member having a forwardly presenting groove engaging said flange, a bolti'rame member connected With said "rooved member and covering the back of the door proper, an inner bolt-frame member connected with the last-mentioned bo1t-frame member and disposed inwardly of the grooved bolt-frame member, and bolts slid- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D.
