This invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for barbers chairs and consists essentially in the provision of a holder for a reel of paper and in mechanism so arranged that the paper may be fed forward by friction feed rollers as the operator pulls upon a cord or string which, after the paper has been fed forward, is automatically reeled up.

The invention consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction. combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a casing which may be of any size or shape and is made of a piece of metal which is bent upon itself at B, and C designates portions of the casing which are struck up, positioned parallel to each other and apertured for the reception of the fastening means whereby the device may be secured to the headrest post of a barbers chair. The casing is provided with an elongated slot D extending its length through which the paper F from the roll is fed, and H designates a hinged closure to said chamber and Specification of Letters Patent.

which closure is circular-outlined and provided w1th a flange H with a beading H about the clrcumference'thereof and which,

when the closure is in the position shown'in Fig. 1 of the drawings, engages an annular groove 1 formed in the wall of the chamber and forming a convenient means for holding the end of the closure locked to the casing.

Upon the upper face of the casing are the V flanges J, underneath which the opposite flanges of a cushion K are adapted to slide and serve tohold the cushion in place, said flanges J being integral with andstruck up from the wall of the casing.

A bracket member L is fastened to the casing at any suitable location, as illustrated, and is bent at right angles at points designated by letter L and portions of the ends of said bracket member are bent upon themselves at locations, designated by letters L and L forming a flange L with a threaded aperture L therein for the reception of an adjusting screw N. The ends of the bracket member L are slotted as at L for the reception of the spindle ends of the two rollers, designated by letters 0 and P, the former of which is corrugated and has keyed thereto a ratchet wheel Q.

Projecting from the end of the casing is a pin S to which one end of the coiled spring S is fastened, the other end of the spring being fastened'to a drum S which is fastened, together with the disks S and S by means of the screws S to the outer face of the reel and which form means whereby, when the chain or cord T, which is fastened to and winds about the reel, is pulled upon, the reel will be caused to rotate in one direction and cause the corrugated roller to rotate therewith through the medium of the pawl and ratchet wheel described. A finger L is struck up from one of the angled ends of the bracket member L and serves as a means for guiding the chain which winds about the reel. The second roller, designated by letter P, is journaled in a bearing member P and a finger P is struck up from each bearing member and is positioned Within the slot at the end of the bracket member.

Adjusting screws, designated by letter N, are journaled in apertures in the flanged ends of the bracket member, as shown, and are adapted to bear against said fingers upon the bearing members in which the roller P is mounted and serve as means for adjusting the friction intermediate the two rollers between which the paper is fed.

A suitable housing V, for the protection of the rollers and other parts, has arms lV' which have points Vi bent at right angles thereto and are adapted to engage the slots Y formed in the ends of the casing and each flange of the housing is provided with an aperture Vi through which a screw may be passed and which engages the end wall of the casing and forms a convenient means for holding the housing in place. Said housing is provided with apertures V, forming a means whereby access may be had to the adjusting screws by the insertion of a screw driver therethrough. ()ne edge V of the housing isadapted to form a cutting edge over which the paper, which has been fed forward, may be drawn and severed.

In operation, the device is applied to the head rest post of a barbers chair in the manner shown and, by pulling upon the chainor cord, a partial rotary movement may be imparted to the reel, causing the corrugated roller to feed out a measured 7 quantity of paper which may be severed by drawing the paper across the sharp cutting edge of the housing. When pressure is relieved from the cord or chain, the spring which is attached to the reel will cause the same to return to its normal position and the spring rewinding, the pawl turning idly over the ratchet teeth and the apparatus will be again in shape for repeating the operation, as will be readily understood.

hat I claim to be new is:

A head rest for barber chairs, comprising a casing having a chambered portion adapted for the reception of a reel of paper, the ends of the casing having slots formed therein, a shell fastened to one end of the casing and having open ends in which paper feeding rolls are mounted, a housing, upper and lower portions of the latter being open, the marginal edge of the opening in the lower portion forming a cutting edge whereby the paper from the reel may be severed, the side walls of the housing being contracted and tapering with shouldered portions adjacent to their forward ends, the latter being bent at right angles and engaging said slots, and screws engaging and holding the portions of the side walls intermediate the angled ends and shoulders flat against the walls of the casing.
