Description
UNITED STATES THOMAS LEAVITT, OF EVERETT, MASSACHUSETTS IMPROVEMENT IN PRINTING-PRESSES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,088, dated July 18, 1871.
To all whom it'may concern:
Beit known that I, THOMAS LEAvITT, of Everett, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Printing-Presses, of which the follow ing is a specification:
My invention relates to the hanging of the reciprocating platen, in its contact in backward motion with the projections on the frame, to the arm upon which the platen is hung, and in. the manner of adjusting the connecting-rods.
Figure-1 is a side elevation of a machine embracing my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a verticalI section of same.
A is the frame; B, the bed; C, the platen; D, connecting-rod;. E, projection on the frame; F, an arm, G, a spiral spring 5 I, a crank-Wheel, J a power-Wheel; h, an adjusting-screw; z', spiral spring; H, driving-Wheel; I, pinion-Wheel; J, cam; K, friction-Wheel.
By revolving the power-Wheel in either direc tion the cam J is brought in contact with the friction-wheel K, which forces the bed B toward the platen C. When the bed has acquired a ing-rods, carry the platen from the bed till the projections E on the frame cause it to assume the position shown in Fig. 1. By means of the adjusting-screws h and spiral springs fi in the ends ofthe connecting-rods the platen is brought to an accurate adjustment With the bed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the cam J With the connecting-rods D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
THOMAS LEAVITT. Witnesses:
A. S. ADAMS, D. G. PATTERSON, Jr.
