Specification of letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, 1916.
Application filed April 2'7, 1912. Serial No. 693,532.
South Shaftsbury, county of Bennington,
and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Linear Counter-Scales, of which the following is a specification. I I
The invention relates to such improve ments and consists of the novel construction and combination of parts described and subsequently claimed.
ling drawings and the reference characters marked thereon, which form-a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a view in per- .spective of a broken-away portion of a tabletop, showing my improved scale-plate mounted thereupon. Fig.2 is a similar view of the scale-plate detached. Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of oneof the fasteningsection of the angular shank of the fasten ing-device.
. I have shown the counter rabbeted out to receive the scalerplate, with an exposed edge of the scale-plate flush with the vertical edge of the counter, and thetop ofithe;
scale-plate flush with the top of the counter. The scale-plate maybe graduated in any lmown manner, and in Fig. 1, I have illus- 'trated a scale-plate graduated for measura ing a yard or fractions thereof.
In carrying out my invention, I provide the scale-plate with apertures, 3, adapted to receive suitable fastening-devlces, whlch aphereinafter ertures are preferably angular and elongated as shown in Fig. 2. The fasteningdevices are adapted to be inserted through therespective apertures, 3, into the counter, said fastening-devices severally having an angular shank, t, adapted to fit and be held from rotation Within the respective apertures, 3, and an elongated head, 5, adapted to extend transversely of the scale-plate and to Iorm a pro ecting marker fora graduat1on thereof. The heads, 5,. of the fastening-devices being elongated can be. made Reference may be had to the accompanyvery narr0W, -so as to mark with approximate accuracy the respective graduation of the scale. By elongating the angular aper tures, 3, a fastening-device having a shank made to fit said apertures, and an elongated head properly disposed upon said shank, cannot be inserted through an aperture in other than the correct position to form a marker forthe respective graduation. The scale-plate and fastening-devices can thus be sold together, ready for mounting upon a counte r, without danger of the marker devices belng improperly applied by the user.
In Fig. 1, I have shown the quartersyard,
half yard, three-quarteryard and the termiby said fasteningapertured scale-plate mounted upon the table; and fastening-devices severally having a shank-inserted through an aperture in the scale-plate into said table, and an elongated head extending transversely of the scaleplate forming a marker for a graduation thereof.
3. The combination With a table; of a scale-plate provided with angular apertures; and fastening-devices inserted through the respective apertures in the scale-plate into said table, said fastening-devices severally having an angular shank fitting and held 10 from rotation in the respective apertures,
HENRY E. HARRIS.
