Be it known that I, Josnrn A. Corns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rubbers for Removing Marks from Paper, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an elastic inkeraser having a novel laterally-projecting cli device.

ne object of this invention is to improve rubbers used for erasing and removing ink marks from the surface of paper, by providing such rubbers with spring clip arms which project from the rubber to serve two useful puropses, namely, first, to grasp onto some stationary part of a desk or type-writ ing machine and thereby hold the said rubber eraser in a fixed position until it may be wanted for erasing, and second, to serve as a handle for the said rubber which handle a persons hand may grasp to facilitate the operation of applying the eraser to the surface of paper.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-

Figure 1, is a perspective view of the article consisting of a combined ink-eraser and laterally-projecting clip. Fig. 2, is a view of the fiat blank from which the spring clip is formed. Fig. 3, shows the fiat rubber or eraser block with the two arms of the spring clip partly attached thereto. Fig. 4, is a section view of the eraser blockand clip devices, as a finished article.

Referring to the drawing, the eraser block 5, may be of any well known material now used for removing pencil marks or ink marks from the surface of paper, and this block may have any preferred shape; in the present instance it is a fiat relatively thin block; it is provided with a center hole 6, and also with a second hole or slot 7, located in the block intermediate of the center and the rim-edge 8. The spring-clip may be first formed of the shape substantially as shown in Fig. 2, from some suitable sheet material, such as metal, celluloid, etc.; this blank is intended to be folded on a crosswise central line 9, so as to bring the two arms 10,

together, as seen in Figs. 1 and 4. The blank as shown in Fig. 2, has an open slot 11, at one side of the said central folding line 9, and at the opposite side thereof has a tongue 12, which may be formed in the material of the blank by a suitable die and punch that will out only three sides of a rectangular hole 13, see Figs. 2 and 4, leaving the fourth side uncut; this tongue as seen in Figs. 2 and 8, is to be bent as shown in Figs. 1 and 4.

Vhen the blank shown in Fig. 2, has been bent or folded at said central line, one arm 10, of the blank may be inserted into and passed through the central hole 6, in the eraser block, as seen in Fig. 3; the tongue 12, on one arm of the clip should extend through the hole 7, in the rubber, and also through the slot 11, in the other arm 10, and the end of the tongue'12, must be finally bent at a right angle, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, to lock the clip parts together. It will be seen the two clip arms 10, are secured to the eraser block 5. The oppositely-curved conformation of the ends of the two arms 10, facilitates slipping the two arms onto some stationary part of a desk or other structure so that the clip-arms will retain the rubber block 5, in some convenient place until it may be wanted for the purpose of erasing. In the present instance the locking of the two clip arms onto the eraser block 5, is effected by a tongue 12, bent at right angles and being integral with one of the clip arms, but the invention is not limited to the use of this particular lock device.

It will be understood the laterally-projecting arms 10, of the clip device may be grasped by the thumb and fingers of a per- Sons hand as an ordinary handle might be grasped and thereby the eraser can be much more firmly held while the operation of rubbing is going on to erase a mark.

Having described my invention what I claim is,

1. The combination of a block of erasing material provided with a hole, and a spring clip of sheet material having two arms one of which has'passed through said hole and also having a tongue that locks the two arms and block together.
