Description

Pmmrr` FFIon MARTIN TAYLOR, OF BUFFALO, NEW'YORKL IMPROVEMENT :my -EN'vELPEs Specification forming part Aof. Letters Patent No. 117,015, date-dnlyll, 1,87r
Toall whom t'inay concern: v
Be it knownthat I, MARTINTAYLOR, of the cityof Bnifalo,'in the county of Erie and State vof New York, have invented an Improved Safety- Envelope, of which the following is a specification: Y
The ordinary envelope, which is provided with' fonr flaps, one on each side Overlappin g each oth er, three being pasted down in forming the pocket,
while the remaining flap is secured by seals after the money or otherarticleis placed therein, has
been found inadequate as a safety-envelope to pre ventthe abstraction of money therefrom, which 1s accomplished by adroitly inserting a W ire or other instrument under one of the lia-ps and hooking` or-enga-ging it with, and withdrawing` therefrom,
the money placed within the same. The obj ect of thereby preventing.,r the possibility of abstracting.
money therefrom Without breaking the seals orl tearing' the envelope.
In thev accompanying drawing, Figure I is a plan of a blank for an envelope, eut out or stamped ready for folding; Fig. II is asimilar view with three of the flaps folded and secured together for forming the pocket. Fig. III is a plan of the envelope, represented when entirely `folded up and secured by tivo seals.
Like letters designate like parts in each of the figures.
A, Fig. I, is the side; a, die sideiiap; 'and' a1 al, the end flaps, which, when gummed and secured together, form the pocket ofthe envelope, Fig. Il. A is the'side or fold designed to overllap the flaps ofthe pocket,an d a2 anda3 a3 the side and end iaps of the former', which overlap the back of the envelope when it is sealed up.-
lfhe aps a2 a a3 of the envelopes, when manufactured, are 4designed to be gummedat their edges and folded, but not pasted down until ai? ter the contents of the envelope are inserted in the pocket. ,The loose endtla-ps a? a? may be of narrow width, in'which case two or more seals are required to properly secure the envelope, as
represented at b b,-Fig..III; or they may be made of greater Width, so as to meet, or nearlyA meet,
atthe center of the envelope, so that a single seal at the center and junction will suice for' In using my improved Ienvelope the' money, pa!-` per, or other valuable is placed in the pocket when theportion A is folded over the laps a 0L al'of the pocket, while the laps a2 a? a'whioh overlap theedges are folded and pasted down on the opposite side, when one or two seals, ac-
cording to the width of the flaps a, suiiice to properly securethe same.
I claim as my invention- The fold and laps A a2 ai a3, arranged with the pocket A a a1 a of an envelope, as hereinbefore set forth.
MARTIN Y TAYLOR..
