the locking dogs 16, and then moves the arms 6 rearwardly by the cam 24, which moves the blocks 8 upwardly and the blocks 9 downwardly, releasing the locking bar 10 and permitting the carriage 33 to be pushed forward so that when the nose of the cam 29 enters the recess 31 the arm 27 will drop and the fingers 18' will come in front of the second spacing pin, at the same time the arms 6 under the force of gravity swing forward to their forward position, again locking the bar 10 between the blocks 8 and 9, and the dogs 16 fall in rear of the shoulder 1? to prevent the arms 6 from swinging back. This locks the carriage 33 for the nest punching operation.
From the fore oing description the advantages of my invention may be appreciated by those skilled in the art.
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In spacing apparatus for punching machine, the combination of a carriage or carrying device adapted to carry a templet, a int-hing bar secured to the carriage, a swinging arm having locking cevices adapted to engage with the locking bar to prevent the forward movement of the same, a device for imparting movement to the swinging arm to release the locking bar, stop fingers, andclevices for operating the stop fingers.
2. In spacing apparatus for punching machine, the combination of a carriage or carrying device, a locking bar secured thereto,
a swinging arm having an opening through which the locking bar passes and having locking blocks adapted to engage with the locking bar, devices for imparting motion to the swinging arm, stop fingers, and devices for operating the stop fingers.
8. In spacing apparatus for punching machine, the combination of a carrying device a cam adapted to retract the swinging arm,
a locking dog adapted to prevent the rearward movement of the swinging arm, a device adapted to operate the locking dog, stop fingers adaptedto engage with a'templet, 1 and a cam for operating the stop fingers.
5. In spacing apparatus for punching machine, the combination of a carrying device, a locking bar, a swinging arm adapted to lock the bar, a dog for locking the swinging arm, movable stop fingers, a cam for releasing the locking dog, a cam for releasing the locking bar, and operating mechanism.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JAMES W. R. MCLAUGHLIN.
