BERNHARDT BRAGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WARDROBE-FIXTURE. v
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 11, 1916.
Application filed January 13, 1915. Serial No. 1,993.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNHARD'I BRAGER, a subject of the Czar of Russia, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved WVardrobe-Fixture, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
This invention relates to wardrobe fixtures or devices for supporting coat or other garment hangers, and has particular reference to devices adapted to be connected to or suspended beneath the horizontal shelves of wardrobes, clothes closets or the like, for supporting any suitable number, size or type of individual garment hangers.
Among the objects of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap, neat and satisfactory device of the character indicated which will hold a considerable number of individual garment hangers in such a manner that any one of the garments supported thereon may be easily removed, the main portion of the device being rotatable in a horizontal plane.
The foregoing and other objects of the invention will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the drawings forming a part of this specification in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and'in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a preferred embodiment of the invention shown in relation to a supporting plate or shelf indicated in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, dotted lines indicating a changed nosition of the bail; and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the central portion of the device on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The several parts of this device may be made of any suitable materials, and the rela tive sizes and proportions, as well as the general design of the mechanism, may be varied to a considerable extent without departing from the spirit of the invention hereinafter more fully described and specifically claimed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, I show at 10 a main supporting part or bail having a substantially horizontal lower bar 11 to which any suitable size, form or type of coat or other garment hangers (not shown) may be connected. The upper portion of the bail may be variously designed, but, as shown herein and as made in a preferred manner, the same includes a pair of substantially horizontal bars or members 12 connected to the outer ends of the bar 11 by vertical portions 18. Said bars 12 are shown arranged in alinement with each other and having their ends extending into a substantially cylindrical head 14 having a vertical axial bore or socket 16. Any suitable means may be employed to secure the adjacent ends of the bar 12 in the body 14: such as soldering, brazing or the like, and I also prefer to use a plug 17 which makes a finish or closure for the socket 16 and may also clamp against the ends of the bars 12 to assist in holding them in position.
At 18 I show a bolt having a head 19 seated within the socket 16, the main portion of the bolt projecting upwardly from the body and through a plate or washer 20 to which the bolt is secured rigidly by any suitable means such as a key or solder. In other words, the washer or plate 20, in its contact with the lower surface of the shelf S, prevents the bolt from rotating and constitutes a stationary member upon which the head 1d and bail are free to rotate. The free end of the bolt is held in place by suitable fastening means such as a nut 21 and washer 22 above the shelf. The bolt and its fastening means provide not only a free rotary movement of the bail, but a wellbraced support therefor preventing tilting of the bail even though most of the weight supported thereby may be at any time at or near one end of the bar 11.
I claim:
In a wardrobe fixture, the combination of a body having a vertical axial socket, a bolt having a head located in said socket and upon which the body is free to rotate around its axis, a plate rigidly secured to the bolt adjacent the head, means cooperating with the bolt and plate to secure the same to a fixed elevated support, a bail car- In testimony whereof I have signed my ried by said body including a lower horiname to this specification in the presence zontal bar and a pair of upper bars extendof two subscribing Witnesses.
ing in alinenient-with each other-into the BERNHA-RDT BRAGER. body, and'apllig closing the lower end of Witnesses :1? 4 said socket and bearing against the adjacent 4 GEO. L. BEELER,
ends of said upper bars. v V v PHILIR D. RoLLHAUs.
