Specification of Lettersratent. Patlited Jtll. 11, 1916.
Application filed February 27, 1914. Serial No. 821,405.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. ROBERT- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bookkeepers Stools; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of thisspecification.
My invention relates to stools, and more particularly to a stool adapted for bookkeepers use; the object of the invention being to provide a structure that will obviate the necessity of a bookkeeper dismounting from his stool in order to reach a book at a far end of his desk. In order to accomplish this object, I have constructed a stool, the details of which are illustrated in the ace companying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective View of a stool constructed according to my invention. Fig. II is a side elevation of the seat showing the manner of mounting on the supporting frame. Fig. III is a rear view of Fig. II. Fig. IV is a detail section showing the manner in which the seat is fastened to its carriage.
Referring more in detail to the drawings: 1 designates the stool in its preferred form, comprising base members 2 having sockets 8 in which are slidably mounted the standards 4, which may be set and fastened at a desired height by the set screws 5, that are held in the base members.
Horizontally connecting the standards 4 and holding the same rigidly, is a cross top bar 6, a bottom bar 7 having its ends turned forwardly so that it may be used as a foot rest, and an intermediate bar 8. a
Slidably mounted on bars 6 and 8 and supported thereby is a seat carriage 9, comprising a U-shaped member having an intermediate, longitudinal portion 10 and side plates 11 which overlie and embrace the two top bars 6 and 8, thereby preventing any twisting or rocking motion relative thereto.
Mounted between the face plates 11 on'the bolts 13 are rollers 14 having concave rolling surfaces 15 which are adapted for traveling on cross bars 6 and 8. Vertically mounted in acupped portion 16 of the face plates 11 on either side of the bar 8 are rollers 17 for preventing longitudinal friction. V
p A seat 18 is adjustably supported on the carriage 9 by bolts 19, which extend through slots 20 in the horizontal portion 10 of the carriage. In order to hold the seat at any desired inclination it is provided with front and rear braces 21, having their upper ends secured to the seat and their lower ends provided with slots 22 through which set screws 23 project into the respective face plates 11, so that the brackets may be adjusted upward or downward and fastened in an adjusted position by tightening the set screws 23 to the plates. only necessary for the operator to push on the foot rest to effect the shifting of the seat to a desired position along the frame.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is 7 1. In a bookkeepers stool, a supporting frame comprising vertically spaced rails, a guide frame lying along the sides of both of said rails, rollers carried by the guide frame and running on said rails to support the frame and permit free travel thereof, and a seat carried by the guide frame.
2. In a bookkeepers stool, a supporting frame comprising verticallv spaced rails. a guide frame overlving both of said rails, rollers mounted within the guide frame and supporting said frame from both of said rails, anti-friction members carried by said guide frame and engaging the sides of the lower rail, and a seat mounted on said guide frame.
3. In a 'bookkeepers stool, a supporting frame comprising upper and lower rails, a
U-shaped guide frame supported on said rails, and vertical rollers mounted 1n sald- .gulde frame and engaging the lower rail of In the use of the seat it is:
lower ends, and vertical rollers mounted in and slot connection With the guide frame, said housings and adapted for engagement for the purpose set forth.
With the sides of the lower rail. In testimony whereof I affix my signature 5. A bookkeepers stool, comprising a supin presence of two Witnesses.
porting frame, a guide frame movably THOMAS W. ROBERTSOJ.
mounted on the supporting frame, a seat Witnesses: I
mounted on said guide frame, and a brace R. F. THoMAs,
connected with said seat and having pin L. E. CoA'rs.
