EXTENSION-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan. 11. 1916.
Application filed July 7, 1915. SerialNo. 38,444.
To all whomitmay concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL KREozKow- SKI, a subject of the Emperor of Austria- Hungary, residing at New York,' in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Im- This invention relates to new and useful improvements in extenslon tables.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a table adapted for compact V 5 tion.
positioning when not in use but readily extending longitudinally of the center thereof in its operative table formation.
A further object is the provision of a table structure provided with a plurality of foldable leaves mounted thereon and with laterally positioned auxiliary foldable supports for the leaves arranged substantially inclosed when the table is in its closed p osi- A still further object is to provide a table supporting a plurality of foldable leaves thereon and having leaf supports foldably positionable within the top thereof beneath he leaves and providing'a compart arrangement of readily extendingtable members.
\Vith these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a part ofthis application and in which likedesignating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device with all of the leaves folded and with one of the leaf supports extended and the other partially folded. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device with the extension leaves and supports extended at one side of the table and in their folded relations at the other side thereof. Fig. 3 is a top'plan view of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional view through a portion of the device taken adjacent one of the side rails positioned as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a sectional detail view taken upon line VV of Fig. 4, and Fig. 6 is a horizontal detail sectional view of a portion of the device partially folded.
Referring more in detail to the drawing,
a main table member or unit 10 is provided havlng a supporting top 11 and the usual legs 12, at the four corners thereof Three hinges 14 and to the opposite edges of the table 10 by hinges 15,.the hinging being such as to allow the leaves at the opposite sides of the table-to be folded together in two separate groups of equal size and substantially covering the said top 11 when positioned thereon as bestillustrated in Fig. 1
of the drawing. Opposite supports of identical form are arranged for eachset of three leaves and each'support consists of a main frame 16 having side beams 17,1ongitudi nally slidable'within opposite slots 18 in the adjacent side wall 19 of the'table 10. This frame 16 has a forwardly'arranged trans.-
yers'e facing strip 20 adapted for flush reception between the opposite shoulders" 21 formed by the tops of the table legs 12. The beams 17 are prevented from being completely removed from'the slots 18 by means "of depending flanges 22-upon their inner ends adapted to engage an edge "23 of the table side 19. Auxiliary legs 24 are for- .wardly hinged as at 25 to the lower surface of the beams 17 and are adapted to fold flatly thereagainst as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4 and whereupon the beams 17 may be slid inwardly of the slots 18 while the legs 24 will slide within-the lower extensions 26 of the said .slots 18 and thus osition the beams and legs 2t completely eneath the table top 11 and with the facing strip 20 lying flush with the front faces of the opposite table legs 12.
The beams 17 are provided with central longitudinal slots 27 upon their upper sides within which the opposite side bars 28 of an auxiliary supporting frame are slidably mounted and are prevented from removal by means of the downwardly extending inner ends 29 of the said bars which are adapted to engage the adjacent edge of the facing strip 20, it being noted that staples 30 are carried by the beams 17 overlying the bars 28 for preventing a separation of the bars from the said beams. A front strip 31 connects the bars 28 and is adapted to fill the upper cut away portion 32 of the facing strip 20 when the bars 28 are completely inclosed'within the beam slots 27. Front legs 83 are hinged as at 31 to the under sides panels or leaves 13 of identical sizev are. hinged to each other by alternately arranged of the bar 28 adjacent their 'forwardends and are adapted to be folded against the bars 28 as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4 and to be positioned with the-saidbars within the beam slots 17 in their folded relations and with the front strip 31 lying flush with the facing strip 20 as well as the forward faces of the main'legs 12. It will be noted that positioning pins 85 are similarly carried beneath the beams 17 and bars 28 which are adapted to be received within similar sockets 36 of the legs 2% and 33 when the legs are in'their folded relations.
From this detailed description of the invention, it Will beseen that the lateral sup porting frames may be completely folded at opposite sides ofthe table '10 positioned enltirely beneath the table top 11 while the leaves 13 may be folded incompact arrangement upon the said table top and thus providing a complete table when the device is folded. It should'be noted that the beams 17 as well as the bars 28 are positioned closer together at one side of the table than the other for'allowing those at one sideto be positioned between those at'the other side of the table when folded and that guide members 37 areprovided forthe said beams 17 beneath .the tabletop 11 and the support-- ing base 38 upon'whichthe said beamflanges 22 slide, the said base being secured parallel beneath the table top 1 1.
WVhen the device is folded the front strip 31 may be pulled outwardly allowing the legs 33 to drop to their vertical supporting position while the frame 16 may be outwardly arranged by inserting outward movement to the facing strip 20, whereupon the legs Qt will resume their vertical positions. The leaves 13 may be then extended and positioned upon the supporting frames in the'complete table formation at either or both sides of the table 10 and is illustrated at one side thereof in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing.
lVhile the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the form, propor tion and details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
beams'slidably mounted through the said slots and having'stop flanges on their inner ends and being provided with longitudinal grooves upon their upper sides, legs forwardly hinged beneath the said beams and slidably positioned through the said slot eX- tensions, a transverse facing strip secured to the forward ends of the said beams and having an upper cut-away portion, bars slidably positioned within the said grooves, a front strip secured to the forward ends of the said bars and seated within the said cut away portion of the facing strip when the device is in its folded position and with the said facing strip and front strip flatly engaging the forward side of the table, front legs hinged forwardly to the said bars and slidably arranged within the said grooves when in their folded positions and foldable leavesfor the said beams and bars hingedly connected to the said table.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of witnesses.
