,RHAIR-DRESSING FOUNDATION,
' Specification of letters Patent;
Patented J an. 4, 19 16.
- 'Application filed September 1,1915. Serial Nets 1121 To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. Forum,
a citizen of the United States of America,
and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and Stateof New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve-- ments in Halr-Dressmg Foundat1ons,of-.
which the following is a specification,
My invention relates to hair foundatlons used in dressing the hair, and especiallyto the type of foundation which produces a roll I effect.
One object of my invention is to provide a. foundation for hair dressing upon which the hair is laid to increase the volume of the hair when dressed.
Another object is to provide a foundation for hair dressing to which the hair may be secured to produce a roll or puff.
Another object is to provide a foundation for hair dressing upon which the hair may be wrapped to produce a roll or puff, the
- upon or secured upon the head and the hair foundation being formed to fit the head. I
Another object is to provide a. simple hair supporting foundation which is cheaply made, efiicient in application, capable of providing for ventilation of the hair, andwhich, 7
if desired, may be readily cleaned.
Other and further objects and advantages will appear from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and will be pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, in which like reference characters indicate similar parts, Figure 1 illustrates the manner in which a foundation embodying my invention is employed in dressing the hair; Fig. 2 is a top view of a preferred form of foundation embodying my invention; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2.- V
This hair dressing foundation is crescentshaped throughout its longitudinal extent and quadrangular in lateral section. The base of the foundation comprises end mem bers 1 and 2 which are curved upwardly between their ends so that they may properly fit upon the head. The base also includes base side members 3 and 4 attached to the extremities of the end members. These base side members are curved to fit the head, as
are also the end members. The upper sidemembers 5 and 6 are attached 'to the end members at points between the extremities of the end members. These upper side members have a greater rate of'curvature than the base side members, so that at the middle of the foundation they arepositioned' above the plane of the base side members at that polnt. The base side'members are in parallel vertical planes and the upper side members are also in parallel vertical planes ,but the I planes of the'upper side members are positioned between the planes of the base side members. Bracingmembers'Z and-'8 extend from one base side member to the adjacent upper side member, thence to the other upper sidemember, and finally down to the other base side member. Thesebracing'members are positioned intermediate the ends of the frame and hold the side members against relative movement.
In using this foundation,'-it may be placed folded over it and secured on the other side in any well-knownmanner, or the hair may be wrapped up upon this foundation and the of my invention with considerable detail, I
do not intend it to be limited to the exact features defined, but intend that such modifications as may occur to those skilled in the art shall fall within the scope of my invention, which invention I intend shall be limited by the hereunto appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letlocated in planes substantially parallel to those of the side members and extending I the hair of the wearer thereon to form a long narrow roll of greater volume than that part of the hair.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
CHARLES F. PORTER.
