PATENT CFFICE.
VOSCO M. CHAFEE, OF CLAY CITY, ILWLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SLIDERS FOR WAGONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,682, dated July 4, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VOSOO M. CHAFEE, of Clay City, in the county of Clay and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Iniprovement in Sliders for Wagons 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and igures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
This invention has relation to animprovement in sliders for wagons, and the novelty consists in extending its ends forward of the axletree and connecting them thereto, as and for the purpose hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing illust 1ating this invention, A represents the axle-tree of a wagon; B, the hounds; and C, the slider, seniicircular in form, and having its ends extended forward of and over the axletre, to which it is secured by the loops D holding nuts D the axle being grooved so as to prevent the lateral movement of said loops and the slider. The hounds and slider are connected by tenon and mortise.
The advantages of this form and arrangement of the slider are 1st, it acts as a brace to resist lateral pressure in turning the wagon to either side. 2d, the hounds being even with the outer surface of the slider, and it semicircularand smooth, there is no danger to be apprehended from the sudden movement of the horses to the right or left. 3d, it is lirm and secure, and 1n ay' be constructed and applied at a little expense.
I claim as my invention- The semicireular slider C, having its ends resting on the axle and secured thereto by hoops D, and also united with the hounds, as shown, when constructed and arranged substantially as specitied. y
