The rotor a in cooperation with the guide blade segment c forms the ahead turbine and the rotor b in cooperation with the guide blade segment 01 the astern turbine. The medium required for the starting or reversing, for example air under pressure, is compressed in" the compressor D and led through a pipe 0 to a reservoir E from whichjconnection is established through the pipes 72 g e and p r g to the nozzles f or h respectively. These connections may be controlled by asuitable valve 8 operated by a hand lever t. The medium having produced its effect can escape through an opening 11 of the casing 11. or be carried away through a pipe connected therewith.
To increase the eiiiciency of the turbine device a part or all of the exhaust gases of the turbine rotors is passedthrough a jacket Z provided in the casing n and surrounding the turbine rotors, and allowed to escape through an exhaust connecting branch m.
If the Diesel motor is to bee-started or reversed for ahead travel, connection is established between the inlet connecting Specification of Letters Patent.

If it is desired to start or reverse-the Diesel motor astern, the inlet connecting branch 9 is brought in connection with the reservoir E, so that the driving medium flows in the casing n through the nozzle h and thereby rotates the rotor 12 and the motor shaft 0 for the rearward travel.
As soon as the Diesel motor is started or reversed in the desired direction, that is to say, as soon as ignition has taken place in the working cylinders of the Diesel motor and the latter is beginning to run of its own power, the supply of the driving medium to the rotor a or b respectively is disconnected, the two rotors, however, remain running and act as fly-wheels.
The above described combination meets all reasonable requirements. The starting or reversing of the Diesel motor by rotation will make that its working parts are not subject to wear from shocks as is the case with other methods. The fact that all controlling parts for starting the motor are done away with for each working cylinder, makes that the number of valves, cams, levers and other required controlling elements is considerably lessened. Hence less possible injury and less cost of repairs. As contrary to starting or reversing' What happens in other systems, no expanding cold air can enter the working cylinders, the motor can be started and reversed with all-safety even when the temperature is low. The material of the working cylinders and pistons does not sufier from diflerences of temperature, caused by hot working gases and cold air. -Experiments have taught that by the improved means a powerful torque is. produced with a comparatively small consumption of compressed air.
