Description
` @aA/MMPMW SAN/@2 www@ 1 4 5 PATENTES JUN 27 1871 UNITED STATES BENJAMIN M. LAMPMAN, OF RUTLAND, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN SlFTlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,457, dated .Tune 27, 1871 antedated June 7, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN N. LAMPMAN, of Rutland, in the county of Rutland and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gravel-Sifting Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of my sand-sitter. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the upper end of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction oil a sand-sifter in the manner set forth.
I A represents the frame of my machine, which is supported by two legs, B, on each side, the legs at the upper end of frame A being a little longer than those at the lower end, in order to give the required inclination to the sifter. On the inner sides and near the lower edge of frame A are the pulleys d, in dotted lines. The said pulleys play in cleats fastened to the frame A. Ey designates a sifter-frame containing a wire screen. The frame E will have grooves in the inner side for the reception of one or two sitters, as the case may require, and will rest at bottom on pulleys d, shown in dotted lines, and confined at top by the hinged slats g. F is a block fastened to the upper end of frame A, and braced at its outer end by rods e. The block Fis cut down on its upper surface so as to receive the cam C, the said cam having a,spindle passing lengthwise through it, to the outer end of which is attached the crank-wheel m. n, shown in the dotted lines, represents an iron rod bent upward at right angles at both ends. One end of said rod enters an eye through the metal plate h, which is secured to the. end of sifter-frame E. The other end moves in the groove in cam G. In order to keep the rod n in place it will pass through a mortise in the end of frame A. Secured to the end of frame A is the tail piece H, which is designed to carry oft' all material too gross to pass through the screen in frame E. By turning the cam C a reciprocating motion will be given to the screen, by means of the rod n, sufficient for all sifting purposes.
My sifter can be used for coal and ashes as well as for sand.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The roller C, provided with a zigzag groovei nesses.
B. N. LAMPMAN.
