Description

EH10 T. JGHNSDN AND GUSSIE lh. LEE, 0F OIVIHA., NEBRASKA.
QXL-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. llel, MM5..
application led March 3D, 1915. Serial No. 17,966.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that we, ERIC T. JOHNSON and GUssIn A. LEE, citizens ofthe United States, resid-ing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and the State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful lmprovements in @il-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to an improvement in oil burners adapted especially for the burning of oil in stoves and furnaces.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a sectional elevation. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the lower ycap.l Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the upper cap.
ln these drawings l designates the pan having a central opening 2. Supported above the pan is a concave-convex cap 3, spaced from the pan and supportedby webs 4 carried by the under side o'f the cap 3. rlfhe central portion of the vcap has a conical depression forming a depending cone 5, into the apex portion of which is secured a supply pipe 6, a portion of which is shown. The pipe 6 discharges liquid fuel into the conical depression' formed inI the cap 3 by the formation of the cone 5.
Fitting over the cap 3 is a larger, upper cap 7, which overhangs the cap 3. This cap is spaced from the cap 3 by lugs 8 formed on one of the caps, preferably the lower cap 3. As shown in the drawings aportigvof these lugs are inthe central conical depressien of the cone 5.' The upper cap 7 has a central depending cone 9 that extends into the depression previously mentioned, being spaced therefrom by the lugs. y The overr opening 2 and out between the webs and mixing with the vapor'as it passes from between the lower cap 3 and the flange l0.
A burner so constructed forms a large vaporizing surface wit-h an abundance of air therefor. f
What we claim is:
l. A burner comprising a pan having an opening, a cap supported above said open ing and having a hollow inverted cone, a liquid fuel pipe discharging into said cone, and a second cap arranged above and spaced from the rst cap and having a depending cone adapted to enter the cone of the first mentioned cap. 4 f y 2. A burner comprising a pan, two superimposed caps arranged above the pan, the
caps having depending cones, one within the other, the' caps and cones being spaced apart, means for feeding fuel into the space between the, cones, and any annular flange carriedby the upper cap and adjacent the edge of the lower cap, as and for the purpose set forth.
