WILLIAM FAULHABER, OF KENOSHA, WISCONSIN.
WINDOW ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1d, 1915.
riginal application filed March 25, 1914, Serial No. 827,062. Divided and this application iled September To aZZ fr0/omit may concern Be it known that I, VILLIAM FAULHABER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Kenosha, county of Kenosha, and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in window attachments, and has for its object the provision of improved means for operating sashes of such windows and locking the same in closed position, the present applican tion being a division of my prior application filed liarch 25, 1911i, Serial No. 827,052.
rihe invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanyingr drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window attachment embodying my invention, and shown in one position of use, and Fig. 2, a vertical section through the window showing the parts in another position of use.
rlhe preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises an ordinary window frame 3 having ordinary upper and lower sashes 4 and 5 respectively slidably mounted therein in the usual manner.
A lever 6 is pivoted at 7 to the inner portion of frame 3 at one side thereof and a link S pivoted at 9 to said lever and at 10 to the upper portion of the upper sash li. Lever 6 also carries a depending),a link 11 pivoted thereto between points 7 and 9 and having; its lower end 12 angularly turned so as to adapt the same for engagement with a set-ies of perforations 13 arranged in a vertical line in a plate 1i projecting' from the upper face of the lower sash Lever 6 is provided with an offset 15 to prevent pinchinf; of the fingers when manipulating' the lever bv grasping handle portion 16. By this arrangement when link 11 is engaged with the uppermost perforation in plate 14, the sashes will be positively locked against openiner from the outside. lVhen link 11 is engaged with one of the lower perforations in plate 14. sashes 4 and 5 will be caused to move simultaneouslv with each other upon Serial No. 859,756.
manipulation of such lever thus facilitating the arrangement of the sashes for ventilating` purposes. i
While l have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing` from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A window attachment comprising` a frame and upper and lower sashes slidable therein; a lever pivoted to said frame; a link connected with said lever and one of said sashes; and a link connected with said lever intermediate said first link connection and the lever pivot and the other of said sashes, substantially as described.
2. A window attachment comprising a frame and upper and lower sashes slidable therein; a lever pivoted to the inner portion of said frame; a link connecting said lever and said upper sash; a plate secured to the upper portion of the lower sash and provided with perforations therein arranged in a vertical line; and a link connected with said lever and provided at its free end with an angularly turned end adapted to engage said perforations, substantially as described.
3. A window attachment comprising, a frame and upper and lower saslies slidable therein; a lever pivoted to said frame; a link permanently connected with said lever and one of said sashes; and a link permanently connected with said lever intermediate said first link connection and the lever pivot and detachably connected with the other of said sashes, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed mv name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CATHERINE M. SCi-IARTEK, Citas. H. PFENNIG.
