IMPROVEMENT IN DENTISTS AND BARBERS CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,427, dated June Q7, 1871.

Figure 1 is a side elevation ot' a chair embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same.
A is the frame-work of the chair. The back B ishin ged to the seatportion of the frame, as shown at S, Fig. 2. To accomplish the purpose of iirmly supporting the. bach at any desired inclination, We attach the ca-sting O to the middle rail of the back B. The lower portion of this casting is formed into the segment of a circle, the center ot' which is at the hinges S, and is notched on the inside, as shown in Fig. l. This segment also runs th rough an eye, I, attached to the under side of the back rail of the seat. Alatch or catch, D, is attached to the back rail, arranged to engage with the notches in casting C to hohl the back securely at the angle. in which it may be set. E is a spring, al so attached to the back rail ot' the seat, arranged to hold thelatch firmly down in the notches- By raising the latch the back B may be inclined backward at an y desired angle and there securely held by the latch D when the latter is let down into the notches in casting O. so arranged as to be drawn out the required disl tance to adapt itto large or small persons. The hin ged lea-fG readily adj usts itselt' to the extended legs ot' the person occupying the chair, so that h will rest comfortably thereon.
It will be readily understood that the chair is to be provided with cushioned seat, and to be upholstered in the usual manner.
