.from accidentally separating or from moving together or toward one another excessively, although the joint is such that a person may. readily assemble and Idetach the pipe sections.
It is also the object ort the invention toprovide a pipe joint of simple and inexpen.. sive nature, which will'eliminate the use of extraneous securing elements, outside the pipe sections themselves, and whereby the joint will be a substa-ntial one, will not be encumbering in construction, and will serve its otice in a thoroughly efficient and practical manner. l
With the foregoing and other vobjects in view which will appear as the vdescription proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that' changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be madewlth- The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, whereini Figure. 1 is a side elevation of the adjacent ends'oitwo stove pipe sections inseparated condition, Fig; 2 is an elevation of the pipe sections assembled. It will be evident that the interengaging portions of the pipes formed by the slit 3 and cuts 6, may be readily and inexpensively new pipe sections, so that the pipe sections In assembling the pipe sections,A they are telescoped together in the usual manner, and the tab 5 is lifted or exed outwardly in any suitable manner, so that the tongue 7 may pass under the same through the slit 3` when the pipe sections are assembled. The tab 5 will thenv overlap the basal portion of the tongue 7 upon the outer side of the pipe, while the tongue 7 will project inwardly,
and may be bent back, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3, to prevent the pipes from accidentally separating or' becoming displaced relative to one another.` l and 2 being moved together, will cause that edge portion of the section 1 formed by the slit 3, to bind between the oblique or inclined edges of the cuts or notches 6, to limit the movement of the pipe .sections toward one another, and to assist in holding the pipe sections in position relative to one another.
The present joint will be eifective to lock `the pipe sections together, and serves its office 1n a. thoroughly efficient, simple and practical manner. To separate the pipe sectio-ns, the tongue 7 is nent/back, so that it may. be drawn out of the slit/3, when the pipe sections are separated. Although the invention is illustrated and described as being employed in a stove pipe joint, it Will be understood that the securing ine-ans may be employed, for securing other pipes and other objectsofshe'et form together. j

A pipe joint comprising a pair of pipe section s'havin-g ends Vtelescoped together. one pipe section having a transverse Vslit adjacent its end and provided with acurved portionb'etiveen and spacedpt'rom its ends and forming a flexible tab projecting 'toward the other-pipe section, the terminals of said slit-being in alineinent and projecting beyond 'said tab in opposite directions, the last mentioned pipe section having a pair of V-.shaped cuts in its end forming a -tapered` longitudinallvprojecting tongue etitending under said tab and through said slot, lthe basal portion of said'tongue being Widerthan said vtab wherebv the edges of the tongue bind Within the terminals-of said slit' between the ends of the slit and said tab, the tongue vbeing engaged to the rst mentioned pipe section for holding the` pipe sections against separation.
