Description

NITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
JOHN ADT, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE J UDD MANU FAC TURIN Gr COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
. IMPROVEMENT IN TWINE-CUTTERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,391, dated June l27, 1871.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ADT, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in lTwine Cutting.; and I do hereby declare the fol owing, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification and reprey sents, in-
the internal edge brought to a sharp or cutting edge, as seen in Fig. 3. The cutters are molded in sand; and, by preference, I introduce a chill to harden the edge. The upper end of the cutter is provided with an eye, B, as seen in Fig. l, through which a screw may be inserted to secure the cutter, or with a nail, C, as in Fig. 2, introduced in the process of casting.
This produces a cutter of very slight cost, coming from the mold complete, requiring only the tumbling process to finish them, and, for the purpose for which they are intended, are as effective as if made from steel.
I claim as my invention- As a new article of manufacture, the hereindescribed twine-cutter, formed from cast metal, and provided with means for securin g the same, substantially as set forth.
JOHN ADT.
