The rear end of the carriage body A carrying the trail eye (1?, forms a separate housing member A which is mounted to oscillate by means of its journal a lying in the longitudinal direction of the carriage in a bearing a secured on the trail body, and this housing member A serves to contain a roller B. The roller B is seated on a shaft D which may be revolved by means of a driving gear mounted in the trail body.
On the bed plate E, which has a boxshaped cross section, is arranged a rail E provided with side flanges 6 see Fig. 1. On the member A and on side projections thereof are arranged flanges a", see Figs. 1
and 2, which grip beneath the flanges 6 so that the bed plate is displaceable relative to the trail end. The rail E has small holes 6 see Fig. 2, with which spurs b of the roller B may engage.
The now described arrangement corresponds in general to the one disclosed in Serial No. 769319.
Now the bed plate E is constructed so that spades may be connected to it in an easily detachable manner. The spades are provided with a shovel-shaped plate F and a pressure plate F On the plate F of each spade is secured an upwardly extending reinforcing piece F see Figs. 1 and 3, which engages between two eyelets a secured at the rear face of the bed plate E and which can be secured thereto by means of a key bolt S. lihe reinforcing piece F carries a aw which is intended to engage with a rib arranged on the bed plate.
Lastly strips 6 which are secured underneath the bed plate are provided to secure the spades F F on the bed plate E and into which the pressure plates F or" the spade may be pushed, see Figs, 1 and 2.
On the journal a between the forward surface of the bearing a and a nut a screwed onto the free end of the journal a is securely fastened a downwardly reaching arm C. This arm carries a pair of ribs 0 at its lower end, see Figs. 1 and 2, by means of which the arm C is guided on a band E which is secured on the inner surface of the bed plate E.
lVhen the gun is to be fired without an a xle foundation or similar arrangement, the spades F F are attached to the bed plate E. The shock caused by the firing will then be taken up by the ground through the intermediary of the bed plate and the spades. The tilting moment caused by the resistance of the spades on the ground will then be transferred to the roller housing A and the trail body respectively, by means of the rear flanges e a? and the guide E 0 and as the mutual distance of the above named flanges from the guide E 0 almost coincides with the width of the bed plate E, measured in the longitudinal direction of the gun carriage, that is to say, as this distance is comparatively great, the transmission will take place under such circumstances that a too high strain on the guides e a and E 0 will be excluded.
I claim:
1. A training device for mobile artillery, comprising a part mounted to rotate in the gun carriage around a longitudinal axis situated in the central vertical plane of the trail, a bed plate and inter-engaging members on said bed plate and said part, said members being so disposed that they provide a bearing of approximately the same extent as the bed plate, measured in the longitudinal direction of the gun carriage.
