JOHN BEAN, JE, 0E PENT WATER, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOB TO HIMsEL WILLIAM H. WILLIAMS, AND BENNETT GOODSELL, 0E sAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR CUTTING SEGMENT-PATTERNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,258, dated J nne 27, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BEAN, Jr., of Pent Water, in the county of Oceana, in the State of Michigan, have invented certain Improvements in Machine for Cutting Pulley-Segment of Paper, of which the following is a specification:
M y invention is a machine for cutting segments out of paper for pulleys and wheels for machinery, and is arranged so as to lay out the segments and cut them, and punch the holes to fasten them together.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my machine.
A is the bed-piece, on which the paper is to be placed to be cut; B, standard on which the arms which carry the cutters revolve; 0, arm on which are the circular knives D and E; F, adjusting pieces between and on the outside of the knives; Gr, adjusting-screws in the adjusting pieces; H, arm on which is fastened adjustable knife I to out the end of the segment; K, screws which hold the knife I in its place; L, hollow punches set in the bed-piece for the purpose of punching the holes in the segments, through which rivets The operation of this machine is, simply, the knives are adjusted on arms 0 and the paper laid on the bed-piece, and, with a mallet, is driven down onto the punches, which punch through, making holes and holding the paper firmly in position. Then the arm G is brought round, and the knives D and E out the outside and inside of the segment. Then arm H is brought round so that the knife I is at the right place, when, with a mallet, the ends of the segment are out. Then remove the segment and out another, and so on.
I claim as my 1nvention l. Bed-piece A, arms 0 and H, with knives D, E, and I, arranged and operated substantially as described.
2. Bed-pieoe A,with hollowpunches L, arranged Witnesses E. D. RICHMOND, F. W. RATZEL.
