Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIOE.
JOSIAH F. ANTISDELL, GEORGE W. ORONK, AND .IOHNIL HAVILAND, OF
JANE SVILLE,
IMPROVEMENT IN WISCONSIN.
STEAM-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,255, dated June 27, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J OsIAH F. ANTIsDELL, GEORGE W. GRONK, and JOHN H. HAVILAND, of Janesville, county of Rock, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Steam-Cooking Apparatus, of which the follovving is a specification;
Our invention is for cooking foodfor cattle, hogs, Src., and is a steam-generating machine in which the steam is generated and conveyed, by means of a pipe, to the tub or other receptacle in which food is to be cooked; and consists of a boiler, pipes, and a drum on top of same, from which water is supplied to the apparatus.
Figure l is a perspective view of our invention; Fig. 2, a vertical sectional view; and Fig. 3, a crosssection of the bottom of the apparatus.
A is the shell or outside of the apparatus; B, the drum, in which is Water to supply the boiler. O is a circular pipe" at the bottom of the apparatns, open on one side where the fuel for the lire is to be fed in, and into which enter pipes D, which pass up and enter a projection in the top of boiler V, E, the cover on top Ot' the boiler, fastened on by bolts and nuts, T; F, pipe from bottom of boiler Vto circular pipe O for the circulation Of the water; `G, exhaust-pipe from the boiler, through which steam is to be conveyed to the ycooking-tub,- VH, water-pipe from boilercover, and which is connected to pipe K and conveys water from drum B through cock I, and steam through cock -L, pipes M and N, to the drum whenever it is necessary to feed'water to the boiler; O, pipe whichV runs down into Water` in the boiler V, which, when cock P is turned, will tell when the water is too low in the boiler; Q, pipe from drum B to blow Oi' the water and sediment; B, opening in the top of drum B to pourin water, and which is to be stopped up when not in use; S, safety-valve in the top of boiler; T, nuts and bolts which hold the top of the boiler on; U, lire-door; V, boiler 5 W, blow-O' pipe at the bottom of pipe O.
The Operation of this apparat-us is that, water being putin the boiler and fire being built On a grate at the bottom of pipe C, the steam is rapidly made, and passes up through pipes D to the steam-reservoir at the top of boiler V, and passes out of pipe G whenever wanted for the purpose of cooking the food. If the steam gets too high, safety-valve S opens and lets it out; and Whenever it is necessary to supply the boiler with water, Open cock L and let steam into drum B, which has Water in it 5 then open cock I and Water will ilow to the boiler. To know Whether water enough is in the boiler, try it with cock I), and blow oli the sediment from pipe W to keep the pipes and boiler clean, and occasionally blow oli Or draw oft' from pipe Q in drum B.
We claim as our invention'- Boiler V, pipes O and D, and circulating-pipe F, all in combination, substantially as and for the pupose described.
