Specification of Letters Patent. v Patented Nov. 23, 1915.
Application filed December 10, 1914. Serial No. 876,458.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ENo KANAME INONYE,
a subject of the Emperor of Japan, and a nations of parts on which I desire protec- F i 1. F i 3 is a sectional view of the actuator casing along line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Figs. 4 and 5 are detailed sections, on lines 4 l. and of Fig. 1, illustrating the latch, and Fig. 6 is a fragmentary elevation of an automobile embodying my invention.
Usingsimilar characters of reference for corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 designates the latch or bolt slidably mounted within the casing 2 for projection through casing opening 3 by "spring 4, such movement being confined through pin 5 of the casing operating in slot 6 .ofthe bolt. The sliding bolt is provided with a rack 7 with which meshes a segmental gear 8 for retracting the bolt. This gear; is fixed to the lower end portion of a vertical rock shaft 9 which is journaled in the apertured ears 10 of easing 2. The upper portion of shaft 9 is journaled in suitable bearings of a second casing 11 and carries within the same a furcated arm 12, the furcations of which are formed with aliuing slots 13. The outer face of casing 11 lies substantially flush-with the surface of the door 14 and is provided with an opening 15 which is normally closed by the latch actuator 16. Therefore, a neat arrangement is obtained and projecting han- 1 dles 01' parts are obviated. The latch actuator is pivoted at one end, as at 17, for swinging inwardly, the opposite end carrying an car 18 connected to furcated arm 12 by pin 19 which slides in the slots 13 when there is relative movement between the actuator and. the rock shaft. Spring a, which is coiled about a fixed pin 20 of easing 2, has one terminal bearing against the casing wall while its other terminal engages in a grooved seat 21 of the bolt 1 wherein it is retained by the abutting side wall of the,
casing. I i I In operation, to retract the bolt from socket 22 to open the door, the actuator 16 is pressed inwardly to thereby rotate or rock the shaft 9.- Through gear 8 and rack 7, the bolt 1 is moved inwardly. Upon releasing the actuator, spring 1 then returns the associated parts to their normal position.
Although I have described, in detail, my invention, I do not intend to limit myself except as the prior art may require.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of Amer- 1. A device of the character described comprising an upper and a lower casing, an actuator plate normally held flush with the door, and pivoted by one end in the upper casing, a rock shaftextending between said casings, a rock arm secured to said shaft within the upper casing and engaging said actuator plate, a latch in said lower casing, and operative connection between said latch and said rock shaft.
2. A device of the character "described comprising an upper and a lower casing. an actuator plate'normally held flush with the door, and pivoted by one end in the upper casing, a lug upon the inner side of said plate at its other end. a rock shaft extending between said casings, a rock arm secured upon said shaft within the upper casing, and engaging the actuator plate, guiding engagement between said lug upon the plate and said rock arm. a latch in the lower casing. and operative connection between said latch andzsaid rock shaft.
A device of the character described comprising an upper and a lower casing, an actuator plate normally held flush with thedoor and adapted to be depressed, said plate being pivoted by one end in the upper casing, a lug upon the inner, side of said plate at its other end, a pin in said lug, a
-cam surface engaging the actuator plate and a slot for guiding engagement with said pm, a latch in said lower casing, and operative connection between said latch and said If rock shaft. v I
