LMELWW.
T 0 all-whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. SUMMERS, J12, a citizen of the United States, residing .at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sample-Cans, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to improvised sample cans and has for itsobject to provide an improved sample package of canned goods such as fruits and vegetables.
The object of the invention is to provide an exterior inclosing sheet-metal can of conventional size and shape for the canned and label, whereby while a full sized can and label areused the quantity of food material required for a samplemay be reduced to a quantity much less than the full sized can will hold.
With these and other objects-in view the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein,
Figure 1, shows the complete sample can in perspective; Fig. 2, a vertical sectional view through the same, and Fig. 3, a crosssectional detail of the same, the section being taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing the numeral, 1, designates a cylindric sheet-metal can body having the heads or ends, 2, and encircled circumferentially by a label, 3. The can-body has an opening, 4, in its circumferential wall and the label has an opening, I

closed. This jar or receptacle, 6, in size is larger than either of the openings, 4, or, 5, in
, tacle will bear close against the marginal edges of the can-body opening, a suitable filling or packing material 11, is packedin the space within the can-body and particularly against the flat side 10, of the jar. This packing material 11, serves toprevent shifting or displacement of the jar 6, in the larger can-body. v
A packing or cushion, 12, may, and preferably is placed on the bottom of the can-' body so as to form a cushion for the jar or receptacle to seat upon.
The top end or head, 2, of the can may be soldered in place or not as desired.
An improvised sample can such as herein set forth materially aids a salesman in the disposal of canned oods because it displays the article both as to full sized and external appearance and the color, etc. of its internal contents thereby enabling a purchaser to form a judgment as to the commercial value and salability of the goods offered.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An improvised sheet-metal sample can, having in combination a can-body provided with a closed head and bottom and said body having an opening in its circumferential wall: a label around the exterior circumferential wall of the can-body which label also has an o ening registering with the said can-body wa l-opening; a transparent glass jar whose wall conforms in shape to the shape of the sheet-metal can wall at said wall-opening and said jar being within the interior of the sheet-metal can with its glass wall exposed at said wall-opening,said glass jar being smaller than the interior space of the sheet-metal can-body but larger than said wall-opening; means within the can-body to hold the smaller glass jar in po- In testimony whereof I aflix my signatllre sition to form a closure for said can-body in presence of two witnesses. wall-opening, whereby while a full sized can CHARLES G.
