CLOSURE.
specification o'f Letters raient.
' Patented Nov. 9, 1915.
l Application led .T une 30, 1913. Serial No; 776,697.
VTo all whom t may concern.' y y Beit known that I, F REDnmoK H. -BEROLD a citizen of the United States, residing at Wyoming, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closures, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates t0 closures of flexible material, for instance paper or other fibrous sheet material.
It is the object of my invention to provide a closure capable of being tightly sealed, and is especially adapted for use as a safety container or envelop which will eX- pose attempts to tamper with or open the same.
The invention will be yreadily understood from the following description and claims, and 4from the drawing, in whichlatter:
Figure 1 is a plan view of an exemplified 4 blank from which the fro-nt and outer closing flap of my improved closure is adapted to be made, and showing the inside face of the blank having the strips of paste applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the blank for the back of my improved closure, having its creasing lines indicated thereon,
the view showing the inside facevof said back ,my improved closure, taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4, showing the front and back bulged, and the closing flaps pasted together. Fig. 6 is a similar view of my improved closure, showing the closing flaps folded and pasted to the body of the closure. Fig. 7 is a vertical section of my im proved device, taken on a line corresponding to the line 7 7 of Fig. 4, showing the closing flaps folded and pasted; and, Fig. 8 is a horizontal section of the same, taken on aline corresponding to the line 8.-8 of Fig. 6.
11, 12, represent the side members of my improved device, 11 being shown as the .front and 12 as the back thereof. Each of these members is preferably provided at its lateral edges and also at its bottom with attaching liaps arranged to be lapped upon the body portions of opposite membersl for forming double lapping thicknesses of inaterial and double joints at the sides and side attaching flaps 15, l5, and the bottom attaching flap 16. Spaces 17 are located 'at the proximate ends of the bottom and sideflaps respectively, these spaces being shown as corner-spaces, permitting ready folding of the'proximateV ends of the bottom and respective side-flaps upon One another at the corners of the closure, the pasted portions forming close joints at the corners. The front body-member is further provided with a closing flap 18 arranged to fold at the crease 19.
The back body-member is provided with side attaching fiaps 21, 21, arranged to fold inwardly toward each other on the creases 22, 22, and with a bottom attaching flap 23 arranged to fold upwardly on the crease 24e. Spaces 25, 25, are between the proximate ends of the bottomattaching flap fand the respective side attaching flaps, these spaces being shown as corner-spaces for permitting ready folding of the proximate ends of the bottom and the respective side-flaps, and the pasted portions at said corners forming close joints. The back member is further provided with a closing flap 26 arranged to fold on the crease 27. The closing Hap 2G is preferably shorterthan the closing dflap 18.
For securing the body-members together, the attaching flaps of one are arranged to be attached to the faces of the proximate edges of the other, and the attaching flaps of the other are arranged'to be receivedabout the joint so formed. Thus the normally outer faces of the side attaching flaps 21,21, are
provided with strips of paste 31, 31, the
said attaching flaps being folded inwardly on their creases 22, 22. The normally outer face of the bottom attaching flap 23 is provided-with a strip of paste 33, this bottom attaching flap being arranged to fold inwardly and upwardly on the crease 24 against the proximate pasted en'ds of the side attaching flaps 2l, 21, for uniting said proximate ends and bottom attaching flap.
The folded attaching flaps of the back member are received against theinner face imi of tile fbefly-portion oir tn attaching finies, and lie eide er and botver ' present exeinplifieetion, provided with strips of peste 231i, 3, and 1rient inwardiy rteoverd eeeli other on the creases i3, i3,
upon the outer ieee o the body-portion the baci: member, for providing the outer und reinforcing joint between seid brick and front members et the sides of seid membersa The inner fece of the bottom attaching riep iti is provided With strip of paste 3:15 end folded upon the outer fece of the bot-torn of the boeit member on the crease l. and thereloy pasted across the proximate ends of said attaching deps i5, lo, and the lower edge or the bodyportion of seid beek member, forming en outer and reinforcing lapping joint between the oody-niembers et the bottorn thereof.
The proximate ends oi the intnrned et taeliinG forni close pasted joints Witi the proximate portions of the closure tot forming 'tight jointe at the lower corners. The olosine deps are preferably arranged to loe pasted together and also to oe 'folded upon the body portion of Said closure sind oe pasted thereto. For accomplishing this i prefer to provide the inner ieee o the outer er ge of the closing flap 26 of the buck bodymember with a strip of peste 36, tine strip or paste at its ends preferably extendinO' to the crease 27 the rnoisteninf of the zo paste errened for Securely ettziening the closing deps 18 and 2G together for closing the closure. prefer that both seid. tlf-tps loe further pasted to the body portion or' the v closure, for accomplishing which the outer face oi the outer edge of the closing dep 26 or" the beek body-member is provided with. a strip of peste 3T which preferaoiy tends et its ends to the crease 2T and the inner face of the outer edge of the closing fiup i8 of the front body-member with e strip of paste 88, which ineloees the outer edge or the dosing riep Q6. Said elo-sing flaps, being folded on the creas/es 27 and 3 9, are received across the upper ends of the side attaching dupe l5, l5, and the outer face of the back-member of: the closure for providing u secure seal for the package.
By my improved construction a closure is formed which is reinforced along ail edges thereof, the interior of the closure being surrounded at its edges loy e double Seal throughout.
My improved device Yternes a tight closure, preventing leakage osa contents, irrespective of how eoinminuted the same may be, and
