Description
W. M. T. BESSON.
TIME INDICATING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED APR-16.1915.
Patented Nov. 2, 1915.
W- M Eu UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM M. T. BESSON, OF SELMA, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO H. A. VAUGHAN, OF SELMA, ALABAMA.
TIME-INDICATING DEVICE.
Application filed April 16, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLTAM M. T. BES- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Selma, in the county of Dallas and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Time-Indicating Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to time-pieces, and has for an object to provide means for designating the time upon a-dial, such means being substantially invisible to the observer.
A further object of the invention is to provide in combination with a dial a plurality of transparent disks mounted to rotate relative to the dial. and each carrying a designating and preferably dissimilar indicating figure positioned to cooperate with the numerals upon the dial.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a View of a watch in front elevation provided with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a View of a watch in edge elevation, the crystal and rotating disks being broken away substantially along their diameters. Fig. 3 is an enlarged diametrical view of the rotating disks in their relation.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The invention which forms the subjectmatter of this application is adapted tobe used in conjunction with any time-piece embodying a dial of substantially the usual and ordinary type having numerals arranged upon a circle adjacent the periphery of the dial.
Mounted relative the dial is a hollow shaft 10 with a shaft 11 mounted to rotate therein, the hollow shaft being intended as the hour shaft, while the internal shaft is the minute shaft. Mounted upon the hollow shaft 10 is a disk 12 having a figure thereon as shown at 13 properly positioned to designate the numerals spaced in the circle adjacent the Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 21,833.
periphery of the dial. Upon the shaft 11 a disk 14 is mounted bearing a designating character 15 also properly positioned to indicate the numerals upon the dial. Preferably outside of this disk 14 is a crystal 16. It will be noted that the disks 12 and 14 are of some transparent material as, for instance, glass; and their edges are so mounted and proportioned as to be concealed beneath the bezel 17; and therefore when viewed from the exterior are practically invisible. The intent is to show the characters 13 and 15 apparently positioned upon the crystal 16 without visible means for rotating the same relative to the numerals upon the dial.
lVhile the characters 13 and 15 have been shown respectively as a solid arrow and an outline arrow, it is to be. understood that the characters may be in any type or form desired, and preferably, though not necessarily, different.
I claim:
1. The combination with a time-piece having a circle of numerals, of two transparent disks mounted to rotate concentrically with the numerals, and designating characters formed upon each of the disks positioned to indicate the numerals.
2. The combination with a dial of a timepiece having numerals thereon, of transparent disks mounted to rotate concentrically with the dial, and dissimilar designating characters carried upon the disks and positioned to indicate the numerals from different positions.
3. The combination with a time-piece embodying a dial and a crystal, of two transparent disks interposed between the dial and the crystal and journaled to rotate concentrically therewith, and designating characters carried upon the disks positioned to indicate numerals upon the dial.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM M. T. BESSON.
Witnesses:
ASENATH C. KINCEY, W. M. VAUGHAN.
