BERNHAGEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at M1l- State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leather- Cutting Machines, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to leather cutting machines, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a machine of imple construct'ion'which will quickly cut leather of varying thicknesses into various shapes to be used for various purposes, and
means being provided for quickly adjusting the cutter relatively to the cutting block.
Another object of the invention is to simplify this invention of leather cutting machines of this character and render the machine more'reliable and eflicient in usei These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Referring to the drawings,.the numeral 1 designates a post or upright, and supported upon the post at the top is a motor 2 and extending from front to rear through the post 1 is a slot or opening 3, and pivotally mounted upon abolt 4 extending at right'angles to the slot 3 is a rocker arm 5. Secured to and extending rearwardly from the post 1 are bearing brackets 6, andjournaled in said brackets is a camshaft 7 carrying a centrally disposed cam 8, said cam being in vertical alinement with therocker arm 5 and underneath the same.

arm 5 is a pulley wheel 7, and an operating belt secured over the pulley wheel and over the pulley wheelon the armature shaft 2 of the motor 2 providing means for operating the device.
Connected to rear end of the rocker arm 5 is a bracket 9 through which an adjusting screw 10 extends, said screw engaging a wedge 11, provided with a metal bearing in the county of Milwaukee and portion 12 for the cam 8. wedgell is adjustable longitudinally of the rocker arm 5 to regulate the throw of the same by means of the screw 10. A slot 13 is formed in the rear end of the rocker arm 5 anda bearing against the top of the wedge 11 to hold the latter firmly in adjusted positions.

movement of the foot pedal 36 throws the clutch member 155 into engagement with the clutch member 16 to rotate the belt-pulley 17. A spring 48 returns the rockerarm 5 to its original position after each operation.
The operation of the invention may be briefly described as follows. The rotation of the cam S underneath thewedge 11 forces the forked ends 16 of the rocker arm 5 downward against the tension of the spring a, to force the cutter 28* carried by the pressure plate 28 against the upper surface of the block 29 to cut a piece of leather placed between the said block-and cutter carried by s 28 out of ver ical alinement with the cutter block 29. From the foregoing it will be obvious that a leather cutting machine made in accordance with this invention is comparatively simple in construction, is quick in opera tion, and cannot readily get out of order.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as'defined in the claims.
What is claimed is 1. A leather cutting machine comprising a base, a Vertical standing upright secured to said base, a pair of spaced brackets secured on the rear face of said base intermediate its end, said upright provided with a transversely extending slot adjacent its upper end thereof, a rocker armpivoted in said slotof the upright, a cam shaft mounted in the bracket, a cam on said shaft, means on the under surface of the rocker arm to be engaged by the cam for operating the same. guide arms secured to the forward end of said rocker arm, guide rings secured to the front face of said upright and positioned one above the other, a standard slidably mounted in said guide rings, said standard being supported by the bracket in the rocker arm, a pressure plate adjustably secured to the standard and means mounted on the upper end of a post and connected to the shaft for operating the same.
2. A leather cutting machine comprising a base, a vertical standing post upright on said base, said upright provided with a transverse slot through its upper end, a rocker arm mounted through said slot, pivotally mounted in said slot, brackets secured to the rear face of said upright, a shaft mounted in said brackets, a drive wheel carried on one end of the shaft, a cam mounted centrally of saidshaft adapted to engage the under surface of the rocker arm, a motor positioned on the upper face of said post connecting the motor to the drive wheel of the'cam shaft for rotating the same, a pair of arms secured to the outer end of the rocker arm, guide rings positioned one above the other and secured to the upright at the front face thereof, a standard slidably mounted through said guide rings and supported therebetween by'the arms on the rocker arm, a pressure plate adjustably mounted to the standard, means secured to the under surface of the standard for holding the same in a normal position, means connected to the cam shaft for throwing the same into and out of engagement with the motor.
