Be it known that I, WVILLIAM A. KIMBELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Birmingham, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have 111- vented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in plows and particularly the design of the plow standard and the manner of attachment of the plow point to the standard.
One object of my invention is to form the standard by a single thickness of a metal bar, the upper end of which is seated in a slot in the bottom of the beam and adjustably mounted therein in the manner which forms the subject matter of a divisional application and which is not claimed as a part of this particular invention.
A further novel feature of my invention resides in the design of the clip which is adjustably attached to the foot of the standard and serves to supplement its width so as to give a sufiicient bearing for the plow point on one side and, if desired, for the heel scrape on the other side, and at the same time to avoid increasing the draft of the plow by oflering any obstruction to the ground.
My invention further comprises the novel details of construction and arrangements of parts which in their preferred embodiments are hereinafter more particularly described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the plow complete with the beam partly broken away. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the plow point attaching means taken on the line 00-02 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view similar to Fig. 2 showing the clip more 1 in detail. Figs. 4 and 5 are sectional views the standard which fits in the slot 3 I have designated by the numeral 7 and this poi tion is of substantial length and is pivotally connected at its rear end to the beam by a cross bolt 8 disposed near the rear end of the slot 3. The rear vertical edge of the lug 5 and the series of bolt holes 6 are both struck on curved lines from bolt 8 as a center and the rear wall 9 of the vertical extension of the slot 3 is struck on'a similar curve. A bolt 10 is passed through the beam and through one of the bolt holes 6 to attach the forward end of the standard to the beam adjustablyso that the plow point 11 may be set at the'desired angle. It will be noted that the standard 4-, where it drops below the beam 1, is of single thickness and is brought forward on a gradual curveand that the front edge 12 thereof, from. the beam down almost to the point of attachment to the plow point, is sharpened to reduce itsresistance to the earth to a minimum.
The lower forward edge of the standard is provided with a pair, of notches 13, either of which is adapted to receive a clip. This clip, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, is provided with a side member 14, a bottom member 15 which extends at right angles to 14 and is provided at its outer end with an upturned lip 16, and a top member 17 which is bent downwardly at an intermediate point so as to bring its outer end 18 into parallelism with the member 15 and spaced therefrom the width of the standard 4: where it is notched. I provide an upturned lip 16 on the outer end of the member 18. The top and bottom members 15 and 17 of the clip near the side member 1a are spaced the full width of the standard and are provided with alining bolt holes 19, see Fig. 3, which are spaced sufficiently from the lipped ends of said arms to permit a strong heavy bolt 20 being inserted and to fit snugly between the side 14 and'the standard 4. when the latter is inserted between the top and bottom walls of the clip and hold the standard against the lips 16. Any suitable style of plow shown in Fig. 3, by engaging the lower member under the standard and passing the upper lip-through and beyond the notch.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In combination, a plow standard formed of a metal bar of single thickness, a clip adapted to embrace the standard, a
blade, and a retaining bolt which passes "through the blade and through both ends,

The combination with a plow standard having a notch in its lower forward edge, of a bent metal clip comprising a side member and top and bottom members set at right angles thereto, said top member having its outer end bent inwardly approximately the depthof the notch in the standard, the outer I end of the top and bottom members being inturned and adapted to clasp the standard between'them when the top member is scated in a notch, there being openings in the top and bottom members to receive a bolt which, in passing between the side member and the standard, is adapted to lock the clip and standard rigidly together.
6. In combination, a plow standard formed of a bent metal bar of single thickness, said bar having a plurality of spaced notches in its lower forward edge, a metal clip comprising a side member and end members bent at right angles to the side member and spaced the width of the standard and having their outer ends provided with inturned lips, the outer part of one end member being bent inwardly the depth of the notch in the standard, said clip being adapted to interlock with a notched portion of the stand ard to form a bearing for a plow and having bolt openings in its end members, and a plow attaching bolt which is adapted to be passed through the clip ends and between the side of the clip and the standard to hold the clip and standard interlocked.
