commune LAMP AND norm.
Specification of Letters Patent,
Patented Oct. 26, 1915.
Application filed April 8, 1915 Serial No. 20,069.
Be'it known that I, PEBRINB. WHITNEY, a-citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county of Bronx and, State of New York, have-invented a certain new and Improved Com- 7 bined Lamp and Horn, of which the followin is a specification.
lhisinvention relates to a combined lamp, and horn adapted to form an attachment for motorcycles, automobiles and similarvehicles, and in which the shell of the lamp is so constituted as to form a support for the casing of the horn. In this way compactness is insured, the attachment of the' device to the vehicle frame is simplified, and the shell of the light is made to assume the additional function of constituting a resonating chamber for the horn.
In-the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined lamp and horn embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a plan, and Fig. 3 a longitudinal section thereof. I
The shell orv casing- 10 of the lamp is shown to be generally of rounded or paraboloidal form and contains reflector 11, and one or more light bulbs 12, the wires 13 of which pass outwardly through an axially arranged socket 1%. Shell 10 is furnished with a pair of apertured lugs 15, to which are secured-by .pins 16, the shanks of a bail 17, having a" screW stem 18, by means of which the device is adapted to be attached to the fname of a motorcycle, automobile or similar vehicle.
A substantial portion of shell 10, does not w the Sounders.
angles, a plurality of shortposts 21, which are deflected at an angle to the axis of the shell. To posts 21 is secured acylindrical casing 22, the bottom of which is spaced from the dislnshaped section 19 and is arranged in parallelism therewith. This casing may be closed by a lid or cover 23, and constitutes the container f r a horn or similar sounding device, shown to consist of an electrically actuated'vibrator 2 1 the wires 25 of which extend outwardly through apertures 26 of lid 23.
I It will be seen that by the construetion described, the lamp as wellas the sounder are coniointly secured to the vehicle body bv one and the same attaching means, so
that simplicity of construction is insured, a-
multiplicity of parts is avoided andspace is economized. So also the shell of thelamp is so disposed relatively to the casing containing the sounder, that it will constitute a resonating chamber for the latter, by means of which the efliciency of the sounder is greatly augmented.
I claim:
A device of the character described comprising a shell, an inclosed light, a casing mounted upon the shell and spaced therefrom, and a sounder within the casing, the shell constituting a resonating chamber for PEBRIN B. WHITNEY.
