" GEARING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 25, 1912. Serial No. 727,698.
My invention relates to gearing, and par- 1 ticularly for machines for washing clothes and the like.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheaply constructed and efiicient machine of this type. I
Ihave' illustrated an embodiment ofmy vmachine in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my inven-, tion showing the tub or boiler in cross section. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a modification of my invention partly broken away. Fig. I
- l is a top plan view of the same.
The tub 1 is fitted with a removable cover 5 on which is mounted the washing mecha nism of the machine as follows: A base plate 6 is secured to the cover 5 at approximately the. center thereof. Mounted on the base plate 6 is a pair of parallel standards 7, which are connected at their upper ends by a cross-bar 8. Journaled in bearings in the cross-bar 8 and base-plate 6 and extending through a corresponding aperture in the cover 5 is a vertical shaft 9. The shaft 9 is provided at its lower free end with a dolly 10. The base plate 6 is provided at each side thereof with set-up bearings 11 in which is journaled a crank-shaft 12. One end of said shaft 12 is elongated and journaled,
' near the outer edge of the cover 5, in a bracket bearing 13. The shaftlQ is provided at its outer free end with a crank wheel 14. The shaft 12 is provided with two crankpins 15 symmetrically disposed with relation to the standards 7. A reciprocating member 16 is slidingly mounted on the.
mounted at one end on the crank pins 15 p r and at the other end are' connected to the reciprocating member 16;
It will be obvious that when the crank wheel 14 isrotated, the member 16 will be reciprocated vertically on the standards 7 and the pins 18 traveling in the grooves 19 will rotate the shaft 9 in one direction during theupward in the opposite direction during the downward stroke of the member 16. The shaft 9 communicates a corresponding rotation to the dolly l0, first in one direction and then inthe other.
Figs. 3 and 1 illustrate, my inventlon ap plied to an o-rdinaryclothes tub without the furnace. The construction of the washing mechanism is the same. 7
It is to be understood that I contemplate any variations in construction which come within the scope of the appended claim;
What I claim is:
In a device of the character described, the
combination with a support, ofa crank.
shaft mounted upon said support adjacent to the surface thereof, means for imparting rotation to said crank shaft, standards mounted upon said support, a cross-piece slidably engaging the free end portions of said standards, connecting rods, each having one of its extremities engaged by said crank shaft and the other traversing said support and provided with spiral depressions upon its curved surface, a collar integrally supported by said crosspiece and traversed by said dasher shaft and means integrally projecting from and stroke of the member 16 and v by said cross-piece, a dasher shaft rotatably supported by and supported by said collar and engaging said In testimony whereof I have signed my spiral depressions effecting rotation-of said name to this specification in the presence of dasher shaft upon sliding displacement of two subscribing Witnesses.
