CORSET.
Specification of Letters'latent.
Patented Oct. 5, 1915.
Application filed m n 10, 1915 Serial no. 13,315.
' provides a very comfortable garment for the wearer.
In the following I have described, in connection with the accompanying drawings, a corset provided with one form of my new improvement and illustrating the construction and advantages thereof, the new features being more particularly pointed outhereinafter in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a corset, parts being broken away, showing one form of my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an inside view of one-half of the corset, parts being broken away; Fig. 3 is a front view, similar to Fig. 1, the top being broken away, showing the two halves of the corset clasped and laced together.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
The corset is shown as'comprising two sections or halves a and b laced together at the back, as at c, and provided with side lacings e and f. In front the corset is provided with a busk 9 having the usual connecting devices it. The corset is' also provided with the usual stiffening strips 2', i, and hose-supporters j, j. I
The lower portion ofthe busk g is free from the front of the body of the corset, as
shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the inner edge of each half of the busk being connected to the body portion at a point distant from the center of. the corset and intermediate the top and bottom thereof by means of a strip of material is, preferably of elastic material. The strips in are preferably so positioned that when in place on the wearer they rest over the abdomen on either side of the center line thereof. The front skirts l and m, of the corset, free from the busk as shown, are adapted to be connected together by a lacing n, the lower portions of the skirts belng left unconnected if desired. The lacing of the skirts extends approximately the vertical width of strips 0 and adjustably reinforces against the strain on the corset at this point.
As shown in the drawings, the lower ends of stays or stifl'ening strips 71, i, extend to a point a little below midway of strips 7:, the free portions of the skirts, or the portions unconnected with the busk, being substantially unstiflt'ened. The strips k are also shown as inclined upward and rearward from the busk (Fig, 2) to aflord better.
means of taking up the strains.
It is clear from the drawings and the foregoing description that when on the person of the wearer and the corset is clasped, the strips is will rest upon and press against the abdomen, while the lacing n will further serve to reinforce such strains, drawing the skirts of the corset tightly and adjustably over the abdomen.
It is to be observed that the construction of the corset, as described and shown, at the place where the skirts Z and m. are separated from the busk, is such that a smooth, 7
continuous and unbroken breadth of fabric extends from top to bottom of the corset, the fabric of the body portion of the corset extending to the outer edges of the busk above the point of separation, and to the I outer edge of the skirt below said point,
without cross stitching or piecing at the point of separation or else where. The fabric is simply tacked to the busk at the point of separation from the busk by sewing or stitches o, the eyelets for lacing n being secured in the same piece of fabric, which co ntinued above the point of separation, forms the outer covering for the busk. The full strength of the fabric is therefore utilized as well as amore sightly structure obtained.
I do not restrict myself to any of the details of construction or arrangement of parts further than the scope of the appended claim mands.
I claim:
The combination with a corset body formed of two body halves, of busks respectively secured to said body halves from the top to a point adjacent the waist line and free from the body halves from the waist line downwardlyto a point over the lower portion of the abdomen, substantially rec tangular elastic strips each connected at one Wardly over the said lower tree portions of end to the inner face of a body half at a the busks. point remote from a busk and at its other In testimony whereof I have signed this end directly to the lower tree portion of said specification in the presence of two suloscrilo- 5 busk and each said insert lying entirely on ing Witnesses. the inner face of the corset bodyhalf, the
corset'body proper extending downwardly e substantial distance below the lower free Witnesses: portions of the busks and being adjustably T. M. HAGGEMAN,"
