CONTAINER,
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented sep 2%, 1915.
Application filed March 8; 1915. Serial No. 12,895.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it. known that 1, WILLIAM MANGOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in containers, and more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with liquids such as milk; and it is an object of the invention to provide a deviceof this general character which can be produced with a minimum of expense and .at the' same time possesses a maximum of efficiency.
Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character including aremovable closure member and having novel and improved means whereby said closure member may be removed from operative position with convenience and facility.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the. combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved container whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all aswill be hereinafter more fully set forth. v p r The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that the invention'may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference-to the accompanyi'ng drawings, wherein' Figure 1 is an elevational view, with a portion broken away, of a container constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of Fig. l.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawlugs, 1 denotes the body of my container of cylindrical form and having one end closed, said container being preferably produced from paper pulp and impregnated with and exteriorly coated with parr allin, whereby the same is rendered im ervious to moisture. It is also to be observed that the body 1 is disposed on a slight taper in order to facilitate the packing and ship ping thereof.
2 denotes a removable closure member for the open end of the container, said closure member being also produced from paper pulp and saturated with and exteriorly coated with paraffin, and provided. with an annular flange 8 adapted to overlie the-body 1 51nd snugly engage the same, whereby it will be observed that an effective closure for th container is afforded.
In order that the closure member 2 may be readily and conveniently removed, I interpose between the flange 3 and body 1 the segmental metallic member a provided intermediate its length with an elongated. tongue 5 projecting beyond the flange 3 and which may be readily grasped by the digits of the hand. The member 4.- is frictionally held in applied position, yet is also free to move around the body 1 whereby the flange may be readily and conveniently loosened or disengaged from the body 1 and the closure member 2 removed from operative position.
From the foregoing description it will be obvious thata container constructed in accordance with my invention is (if an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly .well adapted for use by reasonof the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my inven tion is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
Having describedmy invent-ion, what I claim is A container comprising a body having one end open and having an exterior coating of material yieldable to pressure, a movable clesure member for the open end of said body provided with an annuar nular flange and the adjacent portion of the body and frictionally gield in set; position, Signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
the stem of said-meni e'r bein 0 a len t1 V I to project beyond the fiangefthe edges ofz WVILLIAM MANGOLD' 5 the head serving to separate the flange 0f the cover from the body upon movement of the member around the body.
