Our invention relates to fly catchers.
' Difficulty has heretofore been experienced in catching with sticky fly paper flies which are on the ceiling or wall. It has heretofore been proposed to hold a sheet o f' sticky fly paper in a frame for service as a fly catcher or trap` but. so iar as we are aware,
we are the first to provide a holder for sticky fly paper .combined with a handle having a rockable or adjustable connection therewith. permitting the holder to be arranged at any desired angle in relation tothe handle. to thereby .adapt the device to be raised and lowered and otherwise manipulated for catching fliesen walls and ceilings and other more or less inaccessible places. To this end we provide a holder composed ofl parts adapted to secure the sticky fly paper. and a socket or ferrnle having a clamping connection to the holder and adapted to receive a detachable or perinanent handle. Preferably. the handle' is detachable so that the socket or-f'errule may be folded when the holder is to be laid on a table. shelf or other object for use inl catching flies and so that the handle mayl be applied to the socket or ferrule and the handle adjusted when it is necessary to .catch flies from walls and ceilings.
It has heretofore been proposed to securtJ 4sticky fly paper in a holder composed lof separable parts having clamping means for securing thenrtogether with the sticky fly paper therebetween. Our invention contemplates a further improvement in the'.` con-l struction of the holder. whereby-we do away with clamping devices and provide means' for quickly and easily securing a piece of sticky flv paper or for its removal. To that end. we 'pr-Ovide an open frame having in-` clined or beveled wallsand a channel. in connection with a. flanged back or .clamp plate whose edges or flanges are adapted to frictionally press and hold the edges of the sticky fly paper in the channels, or, if the sticky fly paper is not of sufhcient-size to extend into the channels, then to clamp such piece of sticky fly paper against the open frame and to hold it by reason of the frictional wedging act-ion of' the flanges ot' the back on the walls of' the open frame, as more full.,r set forth hereinafter. l

The holder consists of an open frame l, preferably of rectangular form which has flat portions 2 and side walls 3 provided with re-bent lips el, thereby defining channels 5 along the four sides of the frame. The sides 3 are beveled or inclined toailord a wedging friotional lit with the flange 6 of'. the back T. back are composed of sheet meta-l for the sake of lightness,cheapness and strength, but we do not limit ourselves to this material.. YVhile the frame and the back are preferably rectangular, wedo not limit ourselves 'to that shape, as a circular orm'or any other shape, polygonal7 oval or otherwise may be employed.
The piece of, sticky fly paper 8 should be of suflicient size to rest on the face 2 ofthe frame, and it may extend farther 'and down into the channel or against the walls 3, if desired, as shown in Fig. Ll. The flange 6 on back 7 fits snugly, yet frictionally, against the inclined or beveled :walls 3 and by this wedging and frictional engagement, firmly ,holds the piece of sticky fly paper in position, thel sticky face 8 of the sticky fly paper being exposed, but lying in a plane above the lower edge ofthe frame so that even if the frame comes in contact with ani object, such as the Wall, ceiling or furniture, the fly paper does not adhere thereto. Furthermore, when the holder is to be used on a table, shelf,radiator, or other object, without employing the handle, the back will then-b e loWerm'ost, as shown in Fig. 3, and, if preferred,,may'lbearranged in a standing position, as'shown in Fig. 2.

By arranging the handle and socket at any desired angle to the holder, the device may be manipulated to any desired height alongside of a wall and across a ceiling to disturb flies thereon which will thereupon alight on the sticky face of the Hy paper and be caught.
