To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLYDE E. "W. GARDNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at -Detriot, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriages for cording-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This application is a division of my application filed November 13, 1909, Serial No. 527,787, and relates to tabulating means.
The object is to provide an improved form of means of a simple and practical character in bearings upon which the said roller platen is journaled. The reference letter C designates a fixed bracket or rail in which the carriage is mounted to travel transversely of bracket.

As these constitute no part of my present invention I deem it unnecessary to include a detailed description of them.
The tabulating devices which embody my present invention comprise a pair of arms 31 located at opposite ends of the carriage bracket C and pivoted respectively (b pivot screws 33) to cars formed upon .ai-i projecting rearwardly from the said stationary A screw-threaded rod or shaft 30 extends between the upper ends of said arms 31, being suitably engaged with bosses on said arms as illustrated in Fig. 1. A rock shaft 36 extends from side to side of the carriage and is suitably journaled inthe side plates B thereof and also in central bearing lugs which project rearward from the base portion of the carriage. Between these lugs there is mounted upon and secured to the .said rock shaft 36 an arm or finger 32 which is designed to engage the circumferential grooves of the nuts H. At the right hand end the rock shaft 36 projects beyond the side plate of the carriage and there is secured to it'a lever 37 which serves as a handle being formed at its upper end with a finger piece; The forwardly pro- 8 jecting arm of this lever is connected by a spring'38 to'an upper portion of the adjacent side plate of the carriage. It will be seen that this spring exerts itself to force the arm or finger 32 downwardly into en- 9 place'in an automatic manner since, as before pointed out, the nuts are beveled.
