Specification of Iletters Patent.
Patented Sept. 21, 1915.
Application filed June 2, 1315; Serial No. 31,752.
' a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Wunstorf, Province of Hanover, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in scaffolds, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to scafli'olds to be used for supporting workmen and material during the buildin shafts and the like wherein a plummet is used from which the direction of the shaft is determined.
The object of the invention is to provide a supporting means for suspendingthe scaffold in such a manner that the use of the plummet will not be interfered with and the scaffold will be held against objectionable tilting.
To this end, i have provided a scaffold having a stifl framework therebeneath to which a pair of parallel vertical rails are secured, offset a slight distance from the vertical axis of the scaffold and carrying the means by which the rope which supports the scaffold is housed and guided.
In order to render the present invention easily intelligible reference is had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a front View, partly in section, Fig. 2 a side View, partly in section and Fig. 3 a plan.
The bottom of the scaffold consists of a U-shaped iron ring a, transverse girders b and an angular iron-ring (Z, which latter carries the floor-planks c.
h is a pair of vertically arranged rails, which are U-shaped in such a manner, that, when laid together with their flanged parts they form a box-like shaft. These rails are arranged near the central plummet i. The said rails [L are joined together by a pair of sheet metal plates 9, which extend through and beneath the bottom of the scaffold. That part of the said sheet metal plates extending downwardly through and from the scafiold platform is broadened in such a manner that its free ends embrace another U-shaped rail 9 so that a neighboring channel-like shaft is formed, through which the central plummet is passed. On the under side of the bottom of the scaffold and in close proximity to the same transverse U- shaped girders b are arranged and supported in the iron ring a. In the said transverse girders 1) sheet metal plates 0 are located and extend in a downward direction. Radial] y extending ties n are attached with their one ends to the sheet metal plates g and with their other ends to the said sheet metal plates 0.
7c is a rope, fastened to a bolt Z provided and fixed between the pair of rails at a point lying, a short distance above the upper part of the bottom of the scaffold. In the uppermost ends of the pair of rails there is arranged a sleeve m, through which the rope is is passed, so that the said sleeve forms a guide for the rope.
I claim as my invention 1. In a scaffold, the combination of a platform; a stifi' frame-work supporting the platform; a substantially vertical support extending upwardly from a point slightly to one side of the center of the platform and secured to the framework; and a rope secured to said support.
:2. In a scaffold, the combination of a platform provided with a central opening for the passage of a plummet; a suppqrt on said platform to one side of the opening and formed with a box coaxial with the opening; and a rope secured to said support just above the platform and guided by said support a distance approximately three-fourths the width of the platform.
3. In a scaffold for taking up workmen and material when building shafts, the combination of a platform; eccentrically arranged means on and above the platform for suspending the plat-forms, and for fastening the suspending rope; centrally arranged means on the underside of the platform of the passage of a plummet, and means for connecting together and stiffening all the parts of the scaffold.
4. In a scaffold of the kind as described, the combination of a U-shaped ring, of another angular ring located upon the said U- shaped ring, floor plates arranged on the said angular ring, transverse girders, a pair of rails arranged eccentrically on and extending vertically upwardly from the bottom, sheet metal plates attached to the j oining parts of the said rails, extending downwardly through the bottomand having its parts below the bottom broadened, another rail, embraced by the broadened portions of the sheet metal plates, means for stiffening the bottom, and means within the pair of rails for fastening, and guiding thei rop'e, -fastening andia sleeve m for gniding the 19 substantially as described. rope, all substantially as described. 5. In a scaffold of the kind as described,v In testimony whereof I afliX my signature the combination of a U-shaped'iron ring a, in the presence of two Witnesses.
