Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 14, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. BREMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tampa, in the county of Hillsboro, State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen-Point Removers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in penholders and more particularly to a holder having means for ejecting a pen, and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character which may be conveniently applied to a holder of ordinary construction and which may be readily manipulated for the purpose of discharging the pen.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel form of ejector for penholders, that is simple in construction, eflicient in operation and which may be formed from a single length of wire or other like material whereby the cost of production will be reduced to the minimum.
With the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a penholder constructed in accordance with the invention, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough with the parts in position to eject a pen and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the ejector removed from the penholder. 7
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, A designates a penholder including a handle 10, an inner sleeve 11 and an outer sleeve 12, said sleeves beingconstructed and secured to the handle in the usual manner and provided respectively with registering slots 13, and 14 extending longitudinally from the outer ends thereof.
The ejector which is designated as a Whole the letter B is constructed preferably rom a single length of steel wire, one end of which is directed laterally and coiled whereby to provide a ring 15 adapted for slidable engagement upon the outer sleeve 12 of the holder.
I The straight or intermediate portion 16 of 1 the wire constitutes an arm which projects forwardly of the ring 15 and is provided with a projection 17 formed by bending the wire inwardly as is shown. The free end of the wire is then returned upon itself and flattened whereby to provide a loop 18 and a resilient finger 19, the latter being spaced from the arm and terminating at a point adjacent the projection 17. The looped end 18 is further provided with notches 20 which when the device is applied to a penholder are adapted to engage the side edges of the slot 14: and serve to guide the arm 16 in its movement.
In applying the device, the ring 15 is engaged over the sleeve 12 with the notches 20 receiving the edges of the slot 14 and the finger projecting within the inner sleeve 11. The ring is then slid rearwardly along the sleeve 12 with the projection 17 engaging the face of the sleeve 12 to bring the finger 19 into engagement with the inner wall of the sleeve 11 whereby to retain the device frictionally on the holder.
With the ejector in the position above-described, the pen is inserted between the sleeves 11 and 12 in the usual way with the inner end of the pen engaging the looped end 18 of the wire. Should it be desired to eject the pen the ring is slid forwardly along the sleeve 12 with the looped end 18 forcing the pen outwardly from the holder, such movement being continued until the pen is freed from clamping engagement between the sleeves and thus effectively discharged.
What is claimed is:
The combination with a penholder including inner and outer sleeves having registering slots extending longitudinally from their outer ends, of an ejector mounted on said holder, said ejector comprising a ring slidable on said outer sleeve, an arm extending forwardly from said ring, the free end of said arm being returned upon itself and terminating in a resilient finger with the loop thus formed passing through said slots, In testimony whereof, I aflix my signaand a projection formed inwardly of said ture, in the presence of two Witnesses.
' said projection will engage the outersleeve 7 arm, whereby'when the ejector is retracted, v JOSEPH H BREMER rearwardly of the slots to bring said finger 7 Witnesses: V 7 into engag m nt W th he. lee ev and. r QE t-IA, B ir hr retain the device frictionally on the holder. D. G. HILL.
