CLAES '\-'\'L'LIO11I BOMAN, OF BROOKLYN. NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO EAGLE PENCIL COMPANY. OF NE'W YORK, N. Y.
PEN AND PENCIL C1111.
Application filed June 11, 1915.
To (lat/771.011 it mr j/ coma (It:
Be it linown that I. Chins W. Born-m, a citizen ol the FilllX-Etl States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State oi New York, have invented a new and useful. .linproven'ient in Ten and Pencil Clips, of which the 'l'ollo .viug is a specification. i
This invention relates to a clip designed more particularly for use with fountain pens, and it has to do with means for at tachine' it in a stable manner to the part of the fountain perv-"usually the cap-on which it is mounted.
The invention will fir t he described in eonnertion will the acemnpznrvi SI drawings forming part of this specification, and will then lie more particularly pointed out in the claim.
in the draxving----higuze .l. a perspective view ol the complete device. Fig. 2- view of the two parts of which it is courposed, separated from one t-lllfltliiii. Fig. 3 is a. view ol the cap on which the clip is to he mounted. Fig. -t is 51 side elevation of a fountain pen' prrrrided. with a cop and a. clip nL-ounied on and attached to the esp in accordance with the invention.
A. is the clip proper, and l; is the split ring or annular clasp on which lhe'clip is fastened. 'lhe split ring 15' is' a narrow band oi stout spring metal, which at one point on it has an enlargement or boss 7) to term a seat for the base (L of the clip A, which tits on the seat and is tightly held thereto by rivet a as indicated. The meeting: ends of the. split spring ring are recessed on their exterior opposite edges for a certain distance, forming each end as tongue, which [its into the recess in the other, somewhat after the fashion of the similarly formed meeting ends of an exp-aw sible piston packing ring, with :1 view to provide a smooth and sightly joint.
I) is a fountain pen and C is the cop therefor. in Fig. 3 the cap is shown seput'eto from the clip.- It has in its exterior, at a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 14, 1915.

suitable point, a narrow annular groove 0 of a width to receive snugly the narrow split spring: ring 15, and of such depth preferably that the ring, when fitted into the groove, will be substantially flush with the exterior of the cap. At one point in the groove 0 is an enlargement or recess 0' of shape and size to receive the boss i) on the ring, which boss fits snugly and closely in said enlargenient.
The finished clip can he applied without trouble to the cap, the split ring being capable of expansion. suilicient to permit it to slide over the :rior of the cap up to the groove 0, whiz. it snaps into, closingup so that it lies sine; and tight in the groove, with its hoes :3 fitting closely in the en-- .lare ed part 0 formed for its reception. In this way the clip is, to all intents and purposes, 'astencd permanently to the cap, the engine nent of the split spring ring with the ore we preventing the clip from being drawn oil. l'roin the cap, while the engagement of its hoss r) with the enlarged part c of; the groove prex enls any rotary movement of the clip on the cup.
Having des rihed my invention and the best.- way now known to me of carrying th same into practical elleet, what 1 claim here in us new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A clip for pens and pencils consisting of a clip proper and a narrow still split spring metal ring or hand provided with a'hoss or enlargifenient serving as a seat upon which the base of the clip is mounted and secured, in eon hination with the cylindrical body upon which the clip is n'iountcd formed with an annular external groove in. which the ing, is received and .lits tightly and with an enlargcn ient corresponding to the boss on the ring, in which said boss is received and held, substiintially as and for the purposes here-inhefore set forth.
In testimony whereof I ntliX my signature.
