the trough or the screening drum is oscil lated, so as to force the pulp through the meshes of the screening drum.
The object of the present invention is to vary the oscillation curve of the oscillating part in such a manner, that the oscillations can be adapted to the consistency of the pulp, to be dealt with. This is essentially obtained by the oscillating part (trough or screening drum) being supported on one side on pendulum supports, and on the other side on resilient supports, and being driven from the top end of a vertical connecting rod, the lower end of which is coupled to the driving eccentric and the shaft of which oscillates in an adjustable bearing. By displacing this bearing relatively to the driving eccentric the fulcrum of the connecting rod is displaced and thereby the curve of oscillation of the oscillating part is varied. In consequence thereof the latter will oscillate with a different stroke according to the position of the bearing and a rotary knotter is obtained the shaking of which is at the same time elastic and variable within wide limits.
In the accompanying drawing the new knotter is exemplified in Figure 1 which is a cross section. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the device for adjusting the curve of oscillation.
With the constructional form shown it has been assumed, that the trough oscillates. But just as well also the trough may be stationary and the screening drum may oscillate. At one end the trough rests on pendulum supports 72 and at the other side on spring supports 0. Both the pendulum supports Z) and the spring supports 0 are fitted to a common bed-plate d. The trough is driven from the top end e of a vertical connecting rod 7 the lower end 7 of which is connected to the driving eccentric h. The

means the trough of will, on the driving shaft 7:.- revolving, perform closed,-ap1:)roximately elliptic oscillations, so that the pulp is driven through the meshes of the screen lug-drum. The great werght of the oscillating part, filled with pulp and water is received on the drive side by the resilient supports 0, so that eccentric h and connecting rod 7 are relieved.
For varying the curve of oscillation of the oscillating part a, and adapting the oscillations of the same to the consistency of the pulp, the connecting rod bearing 2' is vertically displaced relatively to the driving eccentric h. For this purpose the following arrangement is provided: The connecting rod bearing '5 is fitted with a ball and socket joint and the ball Z encircling the shaft of the connecting rod engages with a ledge m in a longitudinal groove n of the said shaft. Hereby the ball is non-rotatably secured to the connecting rod, but can be longitudinally displaced on the shaft of the same. The ball is carried in a bearing 2'. This bearing is screwed with a male thread in an upright rotatable threaded sleeve 0, which engages by means of an annular ledge 79 in an annular groove 9 in a casing r fitted to the bed -plate. By turning the threaded sleeve 0 by means of a handwheel 8 provided at its upper end the bearing 2' can be screwed up or down. By the fulcrum of the connecting rod being thus displaced relatively to the eccentric, the curve of oscillation of the 0s cillating part is varied, so that the latter will oscillate with a different stroke according to the position of the bearing.
We claim:
1. In a rotary knotter of the class described, in combination, a screening drum, a trough, one of said members being capable of oscillating in a closed curve, pendulum supports supporting said oscillating memher at one side thereof, spring supports supporting said oscillating member at the other side thereof, a shaft provided with an eccentric, a connecting rod operatively connected to said eccentric and to said oscillating member, and an adjustable bearing for said connnecting rod positioned between the ends thereof, whereby the curve of oscillation of said oscillating member may be varied.
2. Ina rotary knotter of the class described, in combination, a screening drum, a trough, one of said members being capable side thereof, a shaft provided with an eccentric, a connecting rod operatively con nected to said eccentric and to said oscillating member, a threaded sleevesurrounding said connecting rod, a threaded bearing fitting in said sleeve and adjustable With respect thereto, and a bearing ball Within said bearing and encircling said connecting rod, said ball being movable in the direction 1 names to this specification the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
