SPINNING AND WINDING- .MACHINE.
Specification of LetterslIatent. 'Pjatendggdlgept, 121 1%151 Application*filedJanuary 19, 19, 14. "Serial No. 8125941.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Zaormnmn BooTH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in of which the following is a specification.
- My invention relates to spinning and winding machines and its ob ect is to 1mprove and simplify the construction of the same and increase the eificiency and capacity thereof in the manner hereinafter set forth.
One embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification, in which,
Figure 1 is a transverse section through a machine constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the ring which I prefer to use with the device shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the ring shown in Fig. 2. Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are sectional views showing details of construction of said ring.
In the particular drawings selected for more fully disclosing my invention, a twotier creel 10, 10 is shown mounted in the usual way in the rails 11, 12, 13, and oppositely arranged is a lower two-tier creel 10,
10 similarly mounted in the rails 11, 12, 13. It will be understood, however, that the creel may have any desired number of tiers depending on the product desired. The roving passes as usual through the rolls 1 1, or 14 and then through its respective eye or guide-wire 15 or 15, each of which, in the present instance, is shown attached directly to the frame of the machine, although it may be attached to a thread-board in the usual manner, and thence to the eye 17 or 17 of the traveler- ring 18, 18, respectively, mounted as hereinafter more fully described, in the ring-rail 16 which is actuated by the slider or lifter-rod .22.
Heretofore in machines of this character a single vertically-disposed spindle is employed carrying a bobbin upon which is wound the yarn from a bobbin or set of bobbins in the creel.
By arranging the spindles substantiallyhorizontally in pairs as shown in Fig. 1 and adding a lower creel, the capacity of the machine will be doubled. I do not,'however, limit myself to using two sets of spindles,
inasmuch as any desired or convenient num- "ber may be employed, as will be obvious to "those skilled in the art.
The substantially-horizontal spindles, each of which carries a bobbin 19, 19 may be driven in the usual way by cords passing over the whorls 20, 20 and may be mounted as shown in Fig. 1 in the brackets 21, 21' secured in any suitable manner to the frame.
It will be understood of course that the usual driving mechanism for the spindles and the usual builder-motion device for the slider or lifter rods may be employed, and inasmuch as such mechanism constitutes no part of my invention I have omitted the same to prevent undue complication of the drawings.
While, for the purpose of explaining my invention, 1 have shown the same applied to a spinning machine of the rotary-ring type, it will be understood it is not limited in use to such spinning machine, but may be employed in any spinning, roving, or winding machine.
While any suitable construction of ring may be employed, I prefer to use the ring illustrated in Figs. 2 to 6, inclusive, consisting as shown of the two ring sections 28, 24: screwed together and forming a preferably V- haped race-way for the anti-friction bearings 26 herein shown as ball bearings. The stationary ring is secured in any suitable manner to the ring-holder 25 which is set into the ring-rail 19, as shown in Fig. 3. The traveler-ring 18, provided withthe eye 17 has its periphery provided with a \/-shaped race-Way cooperating with the race-way in the stationary ring, so that when anti-friction bearings are placed in said race-way as shown, the traveler-ring may rotate with respect to the stationary ring with a minimum of friction.
It will be understood of course that the ring herein specifically described is capable of general application and is not limited to use with the machine shown in Fig. 1.
It will be further understood that various modifications may be made by those skilled in the art, in said machine and ring, without departing from the principle of my invention.
I claim: 7
1. In combination, two oppositely-disposed creels, rolls for each creel and a pair of substantially-horizontal spindles, on'earranged below the other and each adapted to being substantially at right angles to the receive the yarn from one of said sets of aggesofsaid creels.

Correction in Letters Patent No. 1,153,190.
It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 1,153,190, granted September 14, 1915, upon the application of Zachariah Edward Booth, of New Bedford, Mas
