r rRAnK MAY, or roive rsLnnn cirY, NEW YORK.
To allwhom itmag concern: I h r Be it known that I, FRANK MAY, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at-Astoria, Long Island; City, in the county of New York and State of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends certain new openings'in the sides thereof for the escape of the contents of the bottle.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this character in which will be included a cap with a pair of inclependent stoppers positioned therein for en gagement with the end of the bottle neck,
and means for securing the cap in position.
The invention has for another object to provide a device of this character which will be of extremely simple construction and which may be readily applied to a bottle and when secured in position will prevent the bottle from being refilled.
The invention has for a further object to generally improve and simplify the construction and operation of devices of this character and increase the efliciency thereof without materially increasing the cost of the same.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in cerv tain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention', reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a bottle neck with my improved top and the parts carried thereby secured in position, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the neck and the attachment, and Fig. 3 is a detail trans-' verse section on the Fig. 2.
Referring in detail to the drawings by numerals, l designates a bottle neck having a small annular flange 2 with rounded upplane of line 3-3 of .inner face of the main Non-Remnant BOTTLE.
Specifioation of Letters Patent. Patented Aug, 17,1915, Application-filed June 16,1914. 'Seria1No.845,S98.
faces and a flat outer peripheral face, as will be readily understood by referring to the drawings. 1
A metallic securing band 4:: is engaged around the upper portion of the bottle neck 1 and'over the flanges-2 and 3, and has its upper edge projecting above the flange 3 and turned inwardly, asshown at 5, for en gagement over the outwardly directed flange 6 formed on the lower edge of the depending portion 7 of the cap 8 to retain the lower edge of said depending portion 7 of the cap 8 upon the cushion ring 9, formed of cork or other suitable material, and positioned upon the upper flat face of the flange 3 of the bottle neck 1, thereby securely holding the cap 8 in proper position upon the outer end of the bottle neck 1.
The cap 8 has an outwardly ofl'set central portion 10 from the sides of which are provided a plurality of escape openings 11 through which the contents of the bottle may escape when the thick inner stopper l2 and thin outer stopper 13 are spaced from the end of the bottle neck 1 and in engagement with the ribs 1a and lugs 15 on the portion of the cap 8, it being understood that the ribs 14: are directed downwardly and extended inwardly from the depending portion 7 of the cap 8, while the lugs 15 depend from the main portion of said cap 8 to space the stoppers 12 and 13 from the inner face of said cap and allow the fluid to flow around said stoppers 12 and 13. It will also be understood that the large inner stopper 12 is tapered toward its lower face for snug engagement in the outer end of the bottle neck 1 and is adapted to be retained in proper position by the outer thin stopper 13 resting upon the outer face thereof when the bottle is in upright position. 7
In order to reduce the flow of the contents of the bottle to the escape openings 11, I have provided the cap 8 with an inwardly directed centrally apertured flange 16 at the main portion of the cap, and parallel with the outer closed end of the offset portion 10 thereof.
From the foregoing it will be readily apparent that I have provided a cap of extremely simple construction, and which may be readily secured in position upon a bottle neck with a pair of stoppers positioned in said cap for sealing'the outer end of the bottle, whereby it Will be impossible to reillbe understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed or sacrificing any of,
the advantages thereof.
WVhat is claimed is a 7 7 VA device of the class described comprising the combination with a bottle neck having a pair of flanges formed thereon; of a closure cap positioned upon the outer end of said neck, a cushion ring between said cap andone of said flanges, said closure cap having a "central ofl's'et opening, small "guard cap formed on the outer. face of said I closure cap around said ofl'set opening and provided in its circular guide wall with a plurality of circularly arranged inlet and fluid outlet openings, a stopper Withi'nsaid closure cap and engaged upon the upper end" of said bottle neck, a centering disk resting upon said stopper, said guard and spacing means carried by theclosure ,cap' and engaged With the stopper, and centering disk to guide-the same in their inward and out: Ward movcmentand IQttlILSfL-ld. stopper and centering disk in; spaced "relation With the inner Wall of the closure cap, and means for secur ng the closure cap in position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 7 inpresence oftyvo Witnesses. i
