WILLIAM STEVENSON, 0F NEPONSET, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAFT-EQUALIZERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.` 114,988, dated May 16, 1871.
To all whom fit may concern:
VBe it known that I, WILLIAM STEvENsoN, of Neponset, in the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usefl Improvements in Draft-Equalizer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a draft-equalizer, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a plan view of the equalizer, and Fig. 2 is a perspective View of one end thereof.
A represents the double-tree, to which, at regular intervals, are secured four frames or brackets, B B, one at each end and two between. In each of the end frames is one pulley, a, while in each of the other are two pulleys, band d, one above the other, as shown in Fig. 2. All of these frames and pulleys are pulleys will be in front of the double-tree.
C, C1, and C2 are three rings for att-aching the horses to, said rings being attached to a chain, D, and the chain passed around the pulleys a b d in the lfollowing manner: From the middle ring, C, the chain passes each way over thepulley b, then around the end pulley a and over the pulley d, or, in other words, the chain is passed over the pulleys d d, then around the end pulleys a a, and the ends over the pulleys b b, and connected by the middle ring, (l. The other rings, C1 G2, are attached to the chain, one at each side between the pulleys a and d.
By this means the draft on any part of the chain is compensated for on the other parts, and two, three, or more horses may be attached, and the draft will be always equalized.
Having thus fully described my invention, lwhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The double chain D, arranged in combination with a draft-bar, when said chain is connected to the bar, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM STEVENSON.
