WITNESSES Z INVENTOR I Ailorney JOSEPH H. SCHAAF, or LomsvILLnKEmncKr SEWING-MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1915.
Application filed December 22, 1914. Serial No. 878,559.
To all whom it may concern Be' it known that I, JOSEPH citizen of the United States, of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing- Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame. This invention relates to improvements. in sewing machines", and more particularly to an auxiliary therefor to facilitate the sewing of loops to straps, such for'example, as harness straps,-one object of the invention H. SCHAAF, a
' being to provide a simple device which will enable a loop to be stitchedto' the top of a strap sothat the stitching may be readily extended through those portions of the loop which overlie the strap and underlie the vfoot Which.shall be especially body of the loop at both ends of the latter.
A further ob ect is to provide a presser crowd the overlying portion of a loop back sufficiently to permit the loop to be stitched onto a strap at both ends of the loop. j
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain. novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of apresser foot "embodying my improvements, Fig. 2 is a sectional viewon the line 22 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1
1 represents the. upright body portion of the device provided at its .upperend with a perforated head 2 which will facilitate its attachment to the presser footholder of a sewing machine. At the lower. end, the body portion 1 is provided with a horizontal member 3 having a slot 4 for the accommodation of the needle" andawl of the sewing machine, and said member may also be provided with projections 5 on its bottom face to come in direct contact with the work.
At its forward end, the member 3 is provided with a finger 6 which projects upwardly and slightly forwardly, said finger position. and a resident adapted to being thus disposed in a forwardly inclined The finger 6 is slightly curved or beveled transversely toward one of its edges, and has a general tapering form from its base to its free upper end. At the base of the finger 6, a forwardly projecting toe 7 is provided toenter the loop on the strap and force the same upwardly.
In using my improvements, the loop on the strap will be pressed against the finger 6. If the loop fits closely upon the strap, the toe 7 will first enter under thelsame and force it' upwardly, so that pressure of the edge of the loop against the beveledffinger which normally overlie the fastened portions of said loop.
If desired, my improved presser foot may be used in conjunction with and at one side of the ordinary presser foot or it may be permanently secured to the latter.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettors-Patent, is
1. Asewing' machine attachment for facilitating the stitching of a loop to a strap, comprising a presser foot having a needle slot in its horizontal portion and provided at the forward end of said horizontal portion with an upwardly and forwardly p'roje'ctingfinger having its loop engaging forward face beveled transversely from one side to the other.
. 2. A sewing machine attachment for fa: cilitating the stitching of a loop to a strap, comprising a slotted presser foot provided at its forward end with an upwardly and forwardly projecting tapering finger having its forward face beveled transversely from one side to the other, and a short toe at the base of said finger In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrily ing witnesses.
