SUPPORHNG MEMBER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.19. 1914.

dTATES FREAHK FEEDEBICK HENDRECKSGN, OF GARFIELD, NEE? EEMEY, I
SUPPORTING MEMBER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug, 10,1915.
Application filed August 19, 1914. Serial its. $57,562.
To 1215 whom it may concern Be it known that I, FnANnFnEnnn1cK HnNnnionsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garfield, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supporting Membergof which-the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in supporting members and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character adapted to be employed in connection with musical instruments, and an object of the invention is to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the same may be applied in operative position with convenience and facility.
The invention also has for an object to provide a novel and improved device of this general character comprising a plurality of parts capable of convenient adjustment n order toifully meet the requirements of practice.
The inventionconsists in the "details of,
construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my 1mproved supporting member whereby certain.
important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive andotherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claims.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l'is a view in perspective of a supporting member constructed in accordance with an'embodiment of my invention and in applied position; Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view, partly in section and partly in elevation, illustrating the- As disclosed in the accompanying draw ings, l'denotes a substantially L-shape member, the stem of the member being adapted to overlie a hoop H of a bass drum D or other support, and provided with an opening 2 through which is adapted to be projected the threaded shank 3 of a clamping member 4 to coact' with the stem of the memher 1 in order to ellectively maintain the same in applied position in a manner which is belie'ved to be self-evident, and coacting with the threaded shank 3, as herein disclosed, is a wing nut 5, for the purpose or" creating and maintaining the requisite clamping action.
The free extremity of the stem of the member 1 is providedwith the upstanding hollow bots (3 adapted to receive the lower extremity of a rod 7, said rod being maintained against displacement therefrom through the medium of the clamping screw 8 threaded through the boss 6 and adapted to engage the rod 7 in a manner which is believed to be self-evident.
9 denotes a block of predetermined configuration providedwith the opening 10 in order that the same may be slidably engaged with the rod 7 and in order to maintain the block in a predetermined adjustment upon the rod I have threaded therethrough the clamping screw 11 operating in a manner which is believedto be self-evident. The block 9 is also provided with a second opening 12 disposed at right angles to theopenint, 10 and intersecting the same so that the action of the clamping screw 11 will cause that said rod 1% may be effectively maintained in its different adjustments. One extremity of the rod 14 is formed 'to afford a notch 1-5 in order that a crash symbal C or the like may be conveniently suspended therefrom.
16 denotes a second block provided with an opening l7 whereby the same may be slidablyengaged upon the rod 7 and furtheuprovided.with a clamping screw 18 wl'ioreby said block 16 may be maintained in its different adjustments, and this block 16 is provided with a disposed perpendicularly to the opening 1'? and in communication therewith so that the rod 1 may clanipingly engage the shank 20 adapted to be disposed through the opening 19,
second opening 19 under the influence of the screw 18 5 T or'the like, the supporting ring R of the tom-tom being adapted to bedisposed around the hook member 22 longitudinally I adjustable u on the shank 20, such adjustment being erein disclosed as afforded by having the periphery of the shank 20, adjacent the spanner member 21, threaded, as indicated at 23, and disposed through the threaded opening 24 produced in the shank 20. The depending foot of the member 1 has projecting 'forwardly from the free extremity thereof, the arm or bracket 25 provided adjacent its free periphery with the depending screw member 26 with which co acts the Wing nut 27 in order to adjustably 2c clamp in operative'position the member 28,
here'in disclosed as formed from a single strand of Wire of requisite gage bent upon itselfintermediate its length to form a loop extremity 29 adapted to be disposed around 25 the screw 26, while the free extremities 30 of the member are angularly disposed and adapted to be projected Within suitable openings 'or recesses 31 produced in the bottom of the Wood drum W adjacent an ex sotremity thereof, said drum W, when in applied position, also overlying the arm or bracket 25. I
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a. supporting 35 member constructed in accordance with my invention is f an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly Well adaptedfor use by reason oi the convenience and facility with which it. may be assembled, and it will also be ob,-
viousthat my invention is susceptible of some change and modification Without ma terial departure from the principles, and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not 4 A A Wish to be understood as lim ting myseli' to l the precise arrangement and formation oi the several parts herein'shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
' I claim:
l. A device of the character described .1
rod against displacement, a block adjust ably nlount'ednpon the rod, a spanner member adjustably carried by the block, means common to the rod and spanner member for maintaining the same in their adjusted positions, and a hook member carried by the spanner member.
3. A device of the character described comprising a member provided With engaging means and with a tubular boss, a rod adapted to be projected Within said boss, means carried by the boss for holding the rod against displacement, a block adjustably mounted upon the rod, a spanner member adjustably carried by the block, means common to the rod and spanner member for maintaining the same in their adjusted positions, and a hook member adjustabl carried by the spanner member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiiz: my
vsignature in the presence of two Witnesses.
