To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fnrrz SOHWA-RZ,S11bject of the King of Prussia, residing at 28 Friebenstrasse, Mariendorf, near Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements *in Govermng Devlces for the Fuel-Admission Valves of Combustion-Motors, of which the following is "a specification.
My invention relates to combustion motors and more especially to the means for governing the fuel admission of such motors, and it has for its object to provlde a governing device adapted to cause the fuel introduced into the cylinder of themotor to be atomized in the most perfect manner.
In the governing devices for the fuel admission valves at present in use the lifting of the valve needle pressed upon its seat by a spring is effected in general under governor control by the camrdisk, for instance by means of a cam actuating suitable levers or by means of a pawl device lifting the valve lever and releasing it again whenever the valve shall be closed by the valve spring. In all these devices the lifting of the valve needle is effected rather slowly and the fuel is therefore introduced into the cylinder in the form of a continuous jet. It is obvious therefore that a perfect atomizing of the fuel is thereby rendered impossible.
According to my invention the valve needle is lifted with a jerk in order to in sure a sudden opening of the valve. Immediately after the jerk has acted upon the valve needle and the parts coacting therewith, the needle is again released and the valve is therefor closed instantaneously. By these means the fuel introduced is atomized in an exceedingly exact and perfect manner.
A simple means for opening the valve in the manner aforesaid is'a lever held in its position of rest by springs and being oscillated, against the action of said springs, by a cam on the cam shaft, said lever after having been released again, being moved by the springs beyond its position of rest and thereby exerting a jerk upon the valve needle or a gear inserted between it and the lever. The spring lever being pushed back by its springs immediately after having actuated the valve needle will at once release the needle and therefore allow the e is the valve n'eedle pressed against its seat by a spring (Z and preventing the fuel introduced under pressure at 7 from entering the cylinder. A bell-crank lever 9 resting against a washer c on the valve needle is acted upon from time to time by a pushrod 71 connected with a lever h rotatably fastened on a fixed axle 71, and held in its position of rest by two springs is fastened to the arms k of said lever. A pawl m on a disk m fixed on the cam shaft n pushes lever 72. back whenever it passes underneath it and thereby causes springs 70 to act upon the lever in the opposite direction, the lever on being released by the pawl flying in the opposite direction and in passing through and beyond its original position pushing the rod '5 against the bell-crank lever g. The jerk so exerted upon the lever causes the valve needle to be lifted quickly and for a moment only from its seat, whereupon it is reliased and pressed down again upon its sea I claim 1. In a governing device for the fuel admission valves of combustion motors, in combination, a valve, a motor shaft, means adapted to lift the valve off its seat, and means intermittently connected with the motor shaft adapted to impart to said lifting means a sudden jerk in the direction of lifting, the rate of movement of said lifting means being independent of the speed of the motor shaft.
2. In a governing device for the fuel admission valves of combustion motors, in combination, a valve, a motor shaft, a pawl adapted to rotate with said shaft, a spring controlled oscillating lever in the path of said pawl and means connected with said lever adapted to impart a jerk to the valve in the direction of lift.
3. In a governing device for the fuel admission valves of combustion motors, in combination, a valve, a motor shaft, a pawl adapted to rotate with said shaft, a spring controlled oscillating lever in the path of preferred form of my invention is said pawl, a push rod linked to said lever is independent of the speed of rotation of said shaft.
5. Thecombination with a spring pressed in presence of two witnesses.
