JOSIAH HAR-DI NG,.-OF AINSWOR'TH, IOWA.
Letters Patent No. 114,808, dated May 16, 1871 IMPROVEMENT .IN WAGON-STANDARDS.
The Schedulereferred to in these Letters Patent.- and making p'm-t of the same.
I, JOSIAH HARDING, of Ainsworth, in the county of Washington and State of Iowa, have invented a certainlmprovement on Wagon-Standards, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to meet the wants of farming communities and of individuals generally In each of these figures where like parts are shown like letters are used to indicate the parts.
The standard a may be made of wood or of iron. When made of iron the flange b can be an extension, east or welded, and when made of wood the flange will be a continuation of the binding strip of metal 0.
The mortise in the bar d will be made sufficiently large to admit the standard and the wedge e.
The wedge is shouldered at 1. Against it rests the upper end of the brace g, which is hinged to the bar at h. i
, The thumb-screw 12 passes through brace, wedge, and standard, connecting the three pieces to each other, while the flange '1), holds the standard in the mortise or socket.
In order to detach the standard it is only necessary to turn out the thnmb -screw. turn down the hinged brace, lift out the wedge, and slideback the standard sufficiently far to relieve the flange on the end of the standard.
I claim as my invention A The combination of the hinged brace g, thumb-screw i, wedge. c, and standard a, having a flange, b, as and for the'purpose herein recited.
This specification signed this 16th dayof March, 1871.
Witnesses: JOSIAH HARDING.
