ture and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The trunk of my invention comprises a v body portion, a cover portion hinged thereto at the rear edge thereof, as usual, a
hiiiged front for said cover portion, a hinged front for said body portion, a removable wardrobe tray in said cover portion, and a series of drawers in said body portion.
In accordance with'the construction presented by me the steamer trunk may rest on its bottom under a berth and have either the front of its cover section opened for the removal 'of the Wardrobe tray or the front of its body section opened for access to any of the several drawers located in said section, or the trunk may be withdrawn from under a berth or other confined place and set on end and opened along the line between the cover section and body section and allowed thus to stand with the Wardrobe tray reversed within the cover section to expose its contents at the front and the outerends of the drawers fully exposed in the body section, the hinged fronts of these sections being preferably opened. The body section is closed at its normally upper end by a partition between which and the bottom of said section the several drawers are located, and which partition when the two sections of the trunk are closed together affords a support for the wardrobe tray in the cover section.
The invention will be fully understood from the detailed description hereinafter presented, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a trunk constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention, the body and cover sections being shown in their closed together position with the hinged fronts of said sec-,
ti ons shown in an open position, and the drawers inthe body section being illustrated as partly pulled outwardly; Fig. 2 is a per- Speeificationof Letters Patent. Application filed July 29,1914.
Patented July 27, 1915. Serial No. 53,799.
spective view of the trunk shown as standmg on end and opened, with the wardrobe tray reversed in the cover section so as to expose the interior thereof, one of the drawers being shown in a partly open position and the hinged fronts of the cover and body sections being shown opened, and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section through the trunk with the cover and body sections in their closed position.
In the drawings, i0 designates the trunk I as a whole, 11 the body section or portion thereof, and 12 the cover portion or section thereof, these two parts being hinged to gether along their rear edge in the customary way of securing covers to the body portions of trunks. The body portion 11 is provided with a hinged front 13 adapted to open downwardly against the floor, and the cover portion12 is provided with a hinged front 7 14: adapted to be turned upwardly. The
When the tray 18 is within the trunk, its
closed side, .then at the bottom, will be sup .ported upon the partition 15, as shown in Fig. 3.
In the use of the trunk the tray 18 may be withdrawn from the trunk and stood on end at any convenient place, or, if preferred, the entire trunk may he stood on end and opened, as shown in Fig. 2, and the tray reversed in position, that is taken out of the cover section 12 and turned around to expose its open front and then restored to said cover section whereupon the interior of the wardrobe tray will become exposed. When the trunk is stood on end it is desirable that the, then two upper drawers 16 be reversed in position or turned'from the position in which they are shown in Fig. 1 to that illustrated in Fig. 2 so that their open tops may face upwardly. It is intended to carry small articles in the two square-front drawers, and hence the open tops. of these drawers should face upwardlyv when the trunk is placed on end. The other drawers are of [some considerable dimensions and will receive clothing which will probably be held in position-by tapes. The trunk of my invention may thus be utilized to carry a series of drawers and also a wardrobe tray and either the tray or drawers may be drawn out from the front of the trunk without opening [the cover section 12 or the trunk itself may ends of the drawers.
he stood on end and opened and when in its open position contain both the series of drawers and wardrobe tray. Iregardit as a highly desirable feature of my invention that the trunk may be opened and stood on end and expose the wardrobe tray and the After the trunk has been in use while in the condition shown in trunk for shipment or other pur ose, the wardrobe tray 18 will be taken rom the Fig. 2 and it is desired to' again close the cover section 'and turned around and re- --stored to said section withits open front facin the inner face of the cover section and t ereupon the trunk may be closed, the y then closed back of the wardrobe tray finally engaging the partition 15, orin lieu of this method of procedure e wardrobe tray may be withdrawn from thelcover section and the trunk closed and said tray then slid to position within the cover section, the hinged front section 14 being opened or left for this purpose.
. What I claim as my invention and desire open .to secure by Letters Patent, is:
' 1. A'trunk comprising a body section and. a cover section hinged together along their rear edges and each having an independently hinged front, the body section containing receptacles and having a top separating it from the cover section, and said cover section having within it a wardrobe tra 2 A trunk comprising a body section and a cover section hinged together along their rear edges and each having an independently hinged front, the body section containing receptacles and having a top separating it from the cover section, and said cover section having within it a wardrobe tray said tray being removable from and reversible in the cover section.
3. A-trunk comprislng a body section and .a cover section hinged together along their rear-edges and each having an independ-f ently hinged front, that of the cover section to turn upwardly and that of the body secremovable fromand reversible in the section containing'it.
5. A trunk comprising a body section and a cover section hinged together along their rear edges and having independent receptacles therein, one being a wardrobe tray substantially fitting the section containing it, and each of said sections having a hinged front.
