Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 13, 1915. Serial No. 14,210.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES W. MoN'rcoM- ERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Metcalf, in the county of Thomas and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows, its ob ect being to provide simple and efficient means whereby the various parts of the plow can be adjusted so as to adapt the same for use by persons of different heights and so as to hold the plow share or shovel at any desiredangle and to correspondingly'vary the angle of the foot of the plow, the various adjustments being effected without the use of a wrench or other tool, and the parts being securely held in any positions to which they may be adjusted.
\Vitli the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and n the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a portion of a plow beam and secured upon the top of this beam is a block 2 to which is pivotally connected the upper end of the plow standard 3 which is of the usual curved form made up of a metal strip bent to form an elongated loop, the beam 1 extending between the sides of the standard. Secured on the block 2 by one of the screws 4 employed for holding the block in position is the front end portion of a rack 5, the rear end portion being provided with afoot 6 secured. to the beam 1 by a'bolt 7 extending downwardly through the beam. A sleeve 8 is slidably mounted on the rack bar 5 and is provided, on its lower portion, with teeth 9 adapted to engage the teeth 10 formed along the bottom of the. bar 5. This sleeve 8 has links 11 pivotally connected to the sides thereof and mounted for rotation within the upper portion of the sleeve is a cam 12 having a handle a 13 whereby it can be manipulated readily. Thiscam bears downwardly on the rack bar 5 and when it is moved in one direction it serves to lift the sleeve 8 so as to bring its teeth 9 into engagement with the teeth 10,
thus holding the sleeve against movement upon the bar 5. Links 11 are pivotally connected as at 14 to the handles 15 of the plow, said handles being pivoted to the beam 1 at 16. Thus it will be seen that by means of this adjustment, the handles 15 can be swung about their pivots 16, so as to adapt them for use by persons of different heights.

A setscrew 2-1 is mounted in the outer side of the exten sion 19 and has a lever 25 extending therefrom whereby it can be rotated readily so as to bind upon the hanger 21 and hold it against movement relative to the block 17.
Projecting downwardly and rearwardly from the block 17 is an extension 26 having an opening 27 therein within which is mounted a block 28 pivoted on a bolt 29. The lower face of the block is formed with transverse teeth 30 and these teeth are adapted to engage teeth 31 formed on a rack bar 32 which is pivotally connected at its front end to the standard 3, as shown at.
33. A set screw 34 extends into the lower portion of the extension 26 and has a lever 35 wherebyit can be rotated readily, thus to bind the rack bar 32 against the pivoted block 28 so as to hold said bar against movement relative to the block extension 26.
It will be obvious thatby loosening the set screw 24 the hanger 21 can be adjusted upwardly or downwardly, thus to adjust the foot 22 angularly relative to the standard 3. By loosening the set screw 34 the rack bar 32 can be disengaged from block 28 and adjusted longitudinally, thus to adjust the standard 3 angularly relative to the beam 1. By tighteningthe set screw 84, the bar 32 will be thrust against block 28, said block swinging on its pivot 29 so as to adjust itself automatically to the bar 32.
Importance is attached to the fact that by loosening set screw 2% the hanger 21 can be entirely removed from the side extension 19 of block 17, whereupon the foot 22 can be swung downwardly so as to fully expose the lower portion of the back face of standard Thus a hammer can be easily used to tap a heel pin when located in the lower portion of the standard 3. Heretofore it has been a difficult matter to strike a pin located in the lower portion of the standard, for the reason that the foot has interfered with the movement of a hammer. By mounting the foot in the manner set forth, however, access can be had readily to a pin located at the point mentioned.
By providing the fastening means described, the parts can be quickly and accurately adjusted and when once tightened will not slip out of their proper positions. The adjustment can be effected without the use of a wrench or other tool and, consequently, such adjustment can be effected at any place desired without the necessity of carrying a special tool for that purpose.
What is claimed is 1. In a plow, the combination withabeam, of a standard pivotally connected to and straddling the beam, a block secured to the bottom of the beam and having a depending extension formed with an opening, a rack bar slidably mounted in the opening and pivotally connected to the standard, a

In a plow, the combination with a beam, and standard pivotally connected thereto, of a block upon the bottom of the beam, said block having an apertured extension, a rack bar upon the top of the beam, an adjustable connection between said rack bar and the handles, an adjustable connection between the block extension and the standard, and means extending through the block and rack for binding them upon opposite faces of the beam respectively.
3. In a plow, the combination with a beam, and a standard pivotally connected thereto, of a block upon the bottom of the beam, said block having an apertured extension, a rack bar upon the top of the beam, an adjustable connection between said rack bar and the handles, an adjustable connection between the block extension and the standard, means extending through the block and rack for binding them upon opposite faces of the beam respectively, a foot pivotally connected to the standard, and means adjust ably connected to the block for adjusting the foot angularly relative to the standard.
