To aZZ whom t may concern.' Be it known that I, WENZ'TURKA, a citizen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, re-
siding at army backing establishment, Cracow, in the Kingdom of Galicia and Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to safety razors, in which the blade consisting of thin, flexible steel, and of flat' shape, is gripped between two surfaces of a clamping and a guard member.
I am aware, that in the type of safety razors of such kind the guard and .clamping members, which are in some cases flat, in others curved, are not always parallel with each other. But with these razors, having such non parallel surfaces, the width of blade exposed, and the angle at which the blade projects can either not be adjusted at all, or must both be adjusted together.
The object of the presentjnvention is to provide a razor wherein the blade is gripped, as described, between a clamping and a guard member, but wherein the width of blade exposed and its angle canf be adjusted independently of each other, as in some razors of other types. To this end I colistruct a clamping and a guard member so that they converge at their edges, tol grip the blade, but have between them, along their central parts a cavity. within which the blade can be bent for the purpose of regulating the .width of the part exposed without altering theangle of that part.
The invention is illustrated in the annexedv drawings, which show one form of construction and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the razor, Fig. 2 a` vertical section showing the parts assembled but not screwed up for use, Fig.` 3 a vertical sectionof the upper part of the razor with the blade arranged over the adjusting bar, Fig. 4 a front view of the clamp- 'ing member, Fig. 5 a similar view of the guard member, Fig. 6 a similar view ,of the adjusting bar, Fig. 7 a similaryiew of the blade, Fig. 8 asimilarview of the outerLil handle member and Fig. 9 a similar view of the inner handle member.

The guard member, designated f, is of an undulating shape, and'has teeth g along its edges. When the clamping and the guard member are placed together, as shown in Fig. 1, there is a' channel or cavity between them, along the center, by virtue of the concavity of the one and the undulation of the other, but near their edges the parts converge to grip the blade d. The guard f has holes for the bosses b, and also a central hole for a screw-threaded, tubular shank z. z', which lies within the cavity referred to. The surfacesof this bar are shaped to fit alternatively against the inside surface vof the clamp a, `and against the guard 7", and the bar i can be moved up and down a few millimeters between the two members. The bar has holes for the bosses Z), and the shank c passes through the shank h. The blade may lie either under the bar i, asfshown in Fig. 2, or over it, as shown in Fig. 3.
The Vparts are held together by two tubular handle members Z and p, the member p lying partly within the cavity m of the member Z. The member Zis internally screw# threaded at n to engage with the shank lz. Its front edge is marked with divisions forming a scale o, which can be made to register. with a mark on the guard f. The member p is internally screw-threaded at g to engage with the shank c, and has va scale 1' marked on an enlarged part at its rear end, to registenwith a mark on the member Z.
It will be seen that by turning the member Z, the bar z' can be moved up and down in the cavity between the clamping and the guard member.r By this means the blade can be bent between the clamping and the guard member, so as to alter its eective angle at, which the blade projects, at its edges. The-two adjustments are quite inpendent, Vso that one can be made without affectingy the other. The adjustments can be noted by means of the scales o and 1, so that they can be easily reobtaind after disconnecting the parts for cleaning. The groove e enables the razor to move more easily over the face of the user.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my invention and in what manner the same is to be performed vI declare that what I claim as new and desire to be secured by Letters Patent is 1. In a safety razor the combination of a flexible blade, a clamping and a guard member, the guard member being of undulating shape, with a depression forming one wall of a cavity between the two said members, along the center of the same, and the interior surface of the clamping member having a concave shape on the inside surface forming the other wall of the said cavity and an adjustable bar in the cavity, arranged to bear on the blade and bend the same, the bar having outer surfaces corresponding to the walls of the said cavity.
2. In a safety razor the combination of a iexible blade, a clamping and a guard member, the guard member being of undulating shape, with a depression forming one wall of a cavity between the two said members,
along the center of the same and the in- .terior ysurface of the clamping member having a' concave shape on the inside surface forming the other wall of the said cavity,
.an adjustable bar in the cavity, arranged to bear on the blade and bend the same, the bar having outer surfaces. corresponding to the walls of the said cavity, a threaded shank on said clamping member, la thread-` ed shank xed to the said adjustable'bar and two tubular, separately rotatable flexible blade, a clamping and a guard member, the guard member being of undulating shape, with a depression forming one wall of a cavity between the two said members,
along the center of the same and the in-' terior surface of the clamping member having a concave shape on the inside surface forming the other wall of the said cavity, an adjustable bar in the cavity, arranged to bear on the -blade and bend the same, the bar having outer surfaces corresponding to the walls of the said cavity, a threaded shank on said clamping member, a threaded shank fixed to the said adjustable bar and two tubular, separately rotatable screwed members one within the other, one engaged with the said threaded shank of the said clamping member-and the other with the said threaded shank of the bar, whereby said clamping member and bar can be separately adjusted, said tubular ymembers having scales marked thereon to indicate the Y adjustments.
