Specification of Letter'slratent. Patented July 20, 1915.
Application mea March 13, 1914. serian No. 824,442.'
To all whom it may conce-rn: Be it known that I, RAUL vDiiiz MURO, a citizen of Cuba, and a resident of Habana,
Cuba, hafe invented a new and Improved Bottle, of which the. following is a full,
clear, and eXact description.
This invention relates to bottles, jars and the like having particular reference to sealing oi" closure means for such containers. It will be understood, therefore, that the term bottle as used hereinafter for convenience of description is to be interpreted i broadly enough to cover any kind of a jar or 'container adapted to be sealed or closed by a'means equivalent to that herein illustrated. f
Aniong the special objects of the invention is to provide a bottle with a neck into which is tted alstop er and providing a locking means for lsai stopper which. cannot be released `without breaking a portion of the bottle neck. l
The. foregoing and other objects of the in,
vention Willhereinafter be more fully detionfinwhich like characters of reference in dicate corresponding parts inail the views, and inwhich-ff A f side 'elevation of the upper Figure 1 isa part of. one forni of the invention, partly in' section, onthe-line 1-9-,1- of Fig.,2; Fig. 2 is aside. elevation of the/saine looking to- .Ward the right lin Fig. 1'; Fig. 3 is a modified formof stopper; Fig. Ll'is the upper end of -shown in Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a side elevation l 'of a modified-form of bottle; and Fig. 6 is a y transversesectional detail of the same, on
n 40 the line 6 6 ofFig. 5.
-The several' parts of the device lmaybe m'ade of any suitable materials, and the'i'ela-` tivel sizes. and' proportions, as well as the Y general design of the'mechanism, mayl be I varied to a. considerable extent vwithout de.
scribed andclaimed and illustrated inthe drawings forming a part'of this specifica-u at bottle neck, adapted. to receive the stopper with a finger piece 13 or 1119.-.
The stopper is shown provided with a hole 14: kextending transversely through it but bei The botlow the rim of the bottle .mouthtle 'neck' 10 is also provided` with a hole 15 registering with one end of the stopper hole 111 when the stopper is seated in proper position, and atv the other side of the neck there is provided a seat '1G constituting the lower end of a slot 17 formed in or leading downwardly from the upper edge or rim of thebottle neck. Said seat 16 alines, therefore, with lthe end of the hole 14' opposite' the hole l5. The purpose. of these holes formed in the stopper and bottleneck is' to accommodate a strong locking pin 1S lof peculiar form, the same being adapted to be driven or forced through the holes 15, 111, and extending Fig. 1.
l A lug or projection 19 is formed'integral with or otherwise rigidly secured to the outer wall of the bottle neck directly opposite the seat 16 or in alinement with the pin 18. The lug 19 serves as a stop to limit the means may be employed in connection with the pin to prevent its, reverse movement froml locking position. Afcatch 20 is shown' in this instance as constituting such locking into the seat 16 as shown `in means forthe pin, the catch being V-shaped I and carried within a seat or slot 21 in the pin 18, andcomprising a finger 22 which, in the locking position of the pin,.snaps downwardly or outwardly from the pin. into a notch .23 formed in the stopper adjacent one wall of the hole 14. The opposite portion.
wall of the hole 14 whereby thefinger 22 is of the catch QO'bea-rs against the opposite. 1
caused to snap intosaid notch. It followsl that with the pin and its locking device as shown in Fig. 1, the pin can not be' ivithdrawn outwardly through the hole 15 and so long as the lug 19 remains intact the pin can not pass outwardly the other Way. The
stopper, therefore, will be securely locked in l In order to position, sealing the bottle.`
sharp tap or open a bottle thus sealed, a
'bloW upon the lug 19 applied thereto either directly or by striking against the project ing end'of the pin 18 will cause the lug 19 to be broken off. 'The pin may, therefore,
be' forced through the seat 16 far enough for the said projecting end to pass the hole 15,
mit
` vc alrried by the stopper or it may be driven entirely from the stopper in this' type ofmoved directly outwardly from the bottle neck, the pin 18 moving upwardly along the slot 17.- For'this purpose the pin may be bottle.
ln that form or'v the invention Shown in Figs. 3 land LLL', the stopper 12 is adapted. to`
lbe fitted into the bottle neck 10 by espiral movemenn the stopper being provided for this' purpose with e spirally'threaded'surfece. This surface requires that the stopper he rotatedwhi'le being introduced or withdrawn. A slot 17 eorr`esponding practically to the slot 17 above described-is formed in the bottle neck, butvvhen used in connection [with such bottle as requires the stopper to be Y removed While the locking pin is still en geged with it, seid slot 17' mustbe formed device es in theother case. A lug' 19 is shown adjacent' the lower end ofthe' slot 17"v end serves the 'purposeelredyset forth in connection'with/'the locking pinfadepted to be seated in the stopper andl slot.'
' i i That form of the invention shown in Figs.
f copies of this patent may be obtained for 5 andp constitutes .e compound bottle 'com struction having e plurality of chambers or compertments 24; seperated each from .the
others by vvalis 25. Each. of the compertn -ments/ lies its own neck,10 end lockingE device for a stopper 12. As shown in Fig. 5, the` several necks 10 -lextend upwardly in some cases rather closely together and hence this'exemplifies the necessity for removingv the Stoppers individually Without 'driving' the locking pins 18 entirely through-the stoppers. *In other Words, n-the opening of any The stopper holev my he either one or more of the compartments of the 'compound structure of Fig. 5, a pinl will be. driven or forced far enough through the 'stopper to breakv olf its protecting lug 19,
but the movement of the pin would be tempt were made' to drive itinuch beyond the inner end etti-1e hole 15,; hence the necessity for removing the stopper While the pinis carried thereby, the pin movingelong the slot.
veving 'thus described 4my invention, '1
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentz- The herein described bottle construction comprising' a bottle-having a neck provided With at slot leading downwardly from its up? checked by the remaining'lugs 19 'if en atper edge and forming a. seat at its lovver'en'd, a stopper fitted in said neck to seal the sentie,
a. locking pin extending through one/well of the neck end through the stopper in'to-en.-
gegement with the opposite Weil of the vneck vend seated in said seat, said pin hav n0P a v slot formed transversely through itsmiddle portion,A seid stopper having a notch adje'- said pin slot, a, V-sheped spring catch located cent the locking pin Vend registeringvvith Within said pin 'slot to prevent the reverse movement of the locking pinj'one endo the catch engaging in the stopper notch and the .other end bearing against the vopposite Wall of the stopper hole, and a frengible lug care.
ried by the bottle vneck and serving to pre' vent the movement of th(v` pin along. the Y direction in Whichit isinserted;
In testimony whereof I have 'signed my -80 name to, this specificationin the presence of jtwo subscribing Witnesses.
